I used to work for the Dept. Of Public Safety. If these young men, state troopers, are this scared of being shot. They should to look for another line of work. Wimp, needed to be fired!

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 56191653

Yes I thought that too he valued his own life rather than the life of bystanders and the guy he pulled over, he could have easily got behind the vehicle and still had the upper hand.

He blew it his whole carrier came down to this one incident.
 Quoting: Lost Angel

the victim was hit in the hip and will fully recover and probably receive a nice check to boot. the cop was fired.... maybe some other punishment follows? idk

its very fortunate no one else was hurt and most of all no one died. that this cop loses his career is minor... he needs to be in something else obviously.

that said... this was a mistake, albeit a bad one but still a mistake. there was no mal intent.... nothing for al sharpton to sink his teeth into.

those that hate cops will still hate cops, but i doubt they would want the job. for those quick to judge, maybe this is why some cops are edgy:

He didn't even give the victim any verbal commands to "freeze" or "stop" before firing. He never saw a gun. He still fired more rounds when the already hit victim was raising his hands. I mean really, there is no excuse.

no, stop hands up, turn around,.... it was more like, OMG he turned around, he's reaching for a gun in his car.

Usually people pull their license out of their wallet, they don't turn from the cop and go digging for it in their car seat.

I can understand how a cop in high alert mode could think he was going in his car to grab a gun.

Is the cop at fault in this scenario? Yeah, he was quick to judge but I feel the cop's action is within reason.

The cop is an idiot. Did he really assume that the guy had his ID on him? That he wouldn't need to get it from his car? I would have done the same, to get my ID out of the car. He should have first asked, "where is your ID", that way the guy could tell him. Not only that but the guy had his hands up after the first shots, and he did not have a weapon, so why did he keep shooting?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63252469

So it's actually reached the point now, where you have to FEAR obeying the cop's orders, because you might die on the spot???

If a cop tells you to retrieve you insurance papers, or registration, they might very well KILL you when you reach for it!

This level of insanity has reached a point where people MUST consider whatever means necessary to take their country back. This is absolutely INSANE.

Even in Feudal England, a subject of a tyrannical king, had less to fear. At least law enforcement would not kill you for obeying a command!

Do you think that the founding fathers would have put up with this? Killing people for NOTHING?

There is a possibly worse situation.

This was just one nancy-boy cop.

What about when a bunch of head-shaved 'roid-ragers have their weapons drawn and are screaming (yes, SCREAMING) contradictory orders at some poor victim?

How many more people need to be murdered, brutalised, tazed, beaten and shot before you mugs do something about it?

Montana Highway Patrol trooper shooting

Dashboard camera video from the shooting incident involving Montana Highway Patrol Trooper David DeLaittre near the town of Three Forks on December 1, 2010. DeLaittre was fatally shot by 56 year old Errol Brent Bouldin during a traffic stop. Bouldin was found a few hours later, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

We've always been taught to let the officer know you are reaching for your license before you actually do it.

In this case the officer is a complete moron for demanding a drivers license in this manner.

You made no sense.

First you tell us that you were taught to tell the officer what you going to do. Did the driver do what you were taught?

And then you call the officer a moron, when the driver never did what you were taught.

Using your logic, shouldn't the driver be the moron for not doing what you were taught?

Honestly it looks like this cop was a bad aim or just wasn't following training. When the guy starts walking back to his car *not* responding to commands he should have had his gun out ready to drop this guy as soon as he saw the gun.

It is very different from OP post, where the cop *asks* the guy for his license and the guy does. OP vid was someone following commands, yours he was not.

You can Monday morning quarterback every cop in every video if you like, but that does not change the reality that police work is dangerous at times and good judgement is always required if officers are to serve their communities well and stay alive in the process.

Perhaps the SC trooper recently saw the video of the Montana trooper being killed during a training class and that was on his mind.

I don't find the SC trooper to be a bad person based on that short video, but I do find him to be badly trained and he used poor judgement.

I have seen plenty of videos of BAD cops doing BAD things and they can thank their lucky stars that I was not around when it was happening, but the SC trooper is not a BAD guy from what little I saw in that video.

In Massachusetts, it's always, "License and registration, please" and we always reach across to out glove compartment either before the cop comes to the window, so we're ready, or when he's asking us---because our registrations are in the glove compartment.

According to this NC trooper, everyone in Massachusetts pulled over should be shot now.

Your anger issues are clouding your judgement. If you have read this entire thread, you don't see me cheerleading for the police or any of the govt for that matter.

I retired before 9-11.

9-11 opened my eyes to many things including the law. Especially the law. Can anyone unring a bell once it's been rung?

You can beat up on me if that makes you feel better. I rather enjoy having the slow thinkers take pot shots at me. They are so emotional.

If you are not a slow thinker, you might try educating yourself and then start educating others. Right now, you have only told me that you have anger issues toward the police instead of directing your attention to the people who pass the laws.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63252547

You're damn right I'm angry.

People like you are the reason for much unjust pain and sorrow in this world.

If goons like yourself stood tall and didn't enforce the unjust bs laws that get passed through channels that the public can not block, anger wouldn't be part of the equation.

Cops are the slow thinkers, friend. It's a job requirement of someone so unethical, they intentionally bow down to an obviously corrupt/unjust system and follow it blindly. All the while ruining lives of people they pledge to protect.

If you have in fact changed your ways after leaving the force, I commend you. We all did dumb shit in life, education is a life long quest.

Someone sayz,

This cops are obviously under some sort of "attack" reinforcing the fear that every time they interact with the public, they're in mortal danger.

There just isn't enough assaults against LEO's to justify this sort of razors edge fear of needing to defend themselves.

FYI, it's the "Lullaby League" and the "Lollipop Guild". Although it does sound a bit like lollipop kids.
