Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70681Slavery - white Christian men started this trade. Abolished. Segregation - white Christian Americans started this. Civil rights movement. etc etc etc. Amazing, the ignoramus are coming out of the woodworks! >>Slavery - white Christian men started this trade<< Untrue. Slavery has been around since the very beginning of man. Even Christians were forced to become slaves to the Roman pagans for few centuries. >>Segregation - white Christian Americans started this.<< Totally untrue. Slavery has nothing to do with religious beliefs of white or black Christian Americans. Slavery was an economic issue with a lot of political implications and social disagreements between the North and the South. |

Kay User ID: 72054 United States 07/19/2006 06:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You guys believe everything that you read that is anti-Christian. Did it ever occur to you to go right to the source as ask? You know, you are NOT going to get an objective overview of Christianity by a source that is telling you to leave it and believe the religion they push. For instance, when I first heard about Islam, I had a terrible view of it. Then I talked to Muslims face to face and my opinion changed. Some things about Islam I feel better about and some things I feel worse about, but I am sure I have received the information directly from those who believe it instead of what Christian teachers say. But when I try to say, 'no, the church never said that.' or 'look, the Bible says the opposite of what you think it does...' they it is completely deaf ears. Shame on you! |

Lot of forward-thinking stuff, especially on New Testaments, centuries ahead of the time, inspired a lot of thinkers and doers, most for good reasons, some for bad reasons. Compare to the Qu'ran. Sayings are all forward-thinking, backward-stepping, then repeat. Inspired a lot of thinkers and doers, more often for wrong reasons than right ones. Religion very mono-culturalist in characteristics and beliefs (must be 100% Arabic - fuck all else cultures). |

There is no refuting it, is there? Unfortunately, the schools these days are not teaching kids what they need to know to understand basic history. It's really sad. |

Moorish Spain was far more enlightened than the rest of Catholic Europe. Quoting: Kay 72054algebra comes from al-jabr. I was not saying that Christianity is the only belief system that has accomplished something. Yes, there have been scientific/mathematic discoveries by Islam. I was actually talking about social progress. ===================== I think you would agree with me that maybe instead of this: Christianity is being divided in two - those who truly believe Jesus' teachings like the Sermon on the Mount, and those who are willing to kill for "Christian culture and our way of life". You really mean: Christian culture/Western society is divided int two; those who truly believe Jesus' teachings like the Sermon on the Mount, and those who are willing to kill for a POST-Christian culture and way of life. ========== I think people see POST-CHRISTIAN culture and think it is Christian culture. It is not. Cool stuff, where are the muslim hospitals? Where was the muslim help for the tsunami? O crap, Americans sent a hospital ship, not Iran. Damn. Muslims blow up kids often. To fill up Christian hospitals. Where does Muslim munificience go? Oh, to hezbollah to kill people. Hmm. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 119555 Australia 07/19/2006 09:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Chistians have a history of invading other nations to steal and commit murder. The middle east has been in constant turmoil and in every case you will find the christian invader merrily committing murder for profit. The first thing the yanks did when they entered Iraq was steal everything that wasn't nailed down. When the spanish christians enetered south america the first thing they did after murdering everyone they met was steal everything that wasn't nailed down, the christians who entered the ME on "crusade" killed everyone they met and then stole everything that wasn't nailed down. How mant christian nations have the arabs invaded and stole from. Not content to merely steal goods the christians then stole an entire country, evicted it's inhabitants and filled it full of turkish/jews. |

Religion is for spiritual toddlers. Fundamentalism is for the very worst-behaved, selfish, and backward spiritual toddlers. The slightly more mature ones go in for liberal Christianity, Buddhism, or the like. Spiritual adults, of course, skip all of it and work out their own unique connection to the Infinite. Normally, we let toddlers have their toys - thr trouble is that in the nuclear age, religion has become too dangerous to put up with. Everybody gets the Nat they deserve. |

Quoting: Kay 72054Bible is a remarkably nasty book, particularly the Old Testament. Actually, the Bible is an extremely beautiful book. Even the Old Testament. I will give you an example. Much of the Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible) is dedicated to CIVIL law that was put into place for the Nation of Israel to follow. In this civil law, you get the first concept of 'bankruptcy'. Every 7 years, all debt is eliminated. So, every Israeli citizen was 'free and clear' every 7 years. Pretty cool, I think! And VERY progressive in that time period. You could not even own a slave more than 7 years. Every ISRAELITE. Israelis exist from 1948 AD onwards and have nothing to do with Israelites. |

Quoting: Kay 72054Do you even know what 'fundamentalism' means? It means that there are core beliefs that are 'fundamental' that must be held in order to be in that classification. Christian fundamentalists believe: Fundamentalist Christianity, or Christian fundamentalism is a movement which arose mainly within American Protestantism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by conservative evangelical Christians, who, in a reaction to modernism, actively affirmed a "fundamental" set of Christian beliefs: the inerrancy of the Bible, the virgin birth of Christ, the doctrine of substitutionary atonement, the bodily resurrection of Jesus, and the authenticity of his miracles. ====================== This is from wikipedia. I'm not sure beliefs of these really bug you. Perhaps you could elaborate? |
