Inhale through the nose until you can't enhale anymore, hold that breath 1-3 seconds (whatever is comfortable for you), then exhale out the nose. Do this at least 4-5 times as you first lay down. Add to that.. Clear your mind, imagine a black/blank screen. Thats it. It may or may not work the first couple of times, but it will work. If you start seeing images (it will be colored shapes first), don't control them, allow them. Don't think or talk to your self or manifest 'what the shapes are'. |

Think about your big toes, make yourself aware of them and tell them to go to sleep. Move on to your next toe's and repeat this process. Count down from 3 as you put the different parts of your body to sleep. As you move up to your head you will start to feel the relaxation. Now that your body is at full rest you have to work on the mind. Try to set every thought aside. Dont let any of them grab you, dont follow any thought to completion. Focus in your minds eye a white circle or square if your having problems calming your mind. Force your thoughts away from this space. These steps should take you to a sleep state no matter how wired you are. |

This has worked for me too - except my problem is I just can't get myself to want to go to bed. It used to be an awful experience, I would lay awake and not be able to relax my muscles or turn off my brain. So, I started meditating - like this method - and just started to "allow" the pictures in my mind to form (I used to try to force them). I still "catch" myself from this drifting off stage. I don't know why but I am a really light sleeper (as is my mother), and its hard to get a nights rest, but letting myself allow the dreams to begin it makes it a lot easier. Oh, and try melatonin - worked better for me than drugs (its the precusor to seratonin, which is involved with dreaming and other cool stuff). Its not addictive, nor does it make you sleep - it allows you to sleep. I am self medicating now, so if I sound like a retard that is because I am. good luck with the sleeping though. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 107423I also noticed someone mentioned Nyquil. That works too. You'll wake up the next morning and find your-self on the floor. LOL. not to mention the liver damage it causes |

You will find it far superior to any OTC sleep aid. Boil along with peppermint for taste. Great spirits have always experienced violent opposition from mediocre minds. -A.
