He just responded:

I do not know yet. He is waiting to find out. I am afraid he will be held there for 21 days.
 Quoting: archery mom

I saw some math on the incubation period. It is statistical, it showed that there is a 98% chance that the disease will show itself in 21 days - and a 2% chance it would NOT show in that time period. So if the math is right 1 in 50 cases would incubate for longer than 21 days.

Longer than 21 days can be as long as the rest of the exposed persons' life. Good luck wid dat!

Ok, I live in a small town a couple hours from Dallas. I also belong to a web group of NE and E Texans who talk about primarily local news and scanner activity. One of the members (whom I do NOT know personally, just a fellow member of the group) posted about 15 hours ago the following (I'm keeping his name private, as he does not know I'm sharing this and I would not feel right including his name.):

I just found out my nephew, who is a nurse, is on lock down at Presby hospital in Dallas with the Ebola patient. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.

A few minutes ago, I PM'd him the following:

[Name], again, my prayers for your nephew and all others involved. Was wondering if you are in contact with him? Do you have any word of his safety? Precautions taken to keep him and any others there with him healthy? I don't know him or you, but am very worried for a fellow Texas caught up in this mess.

May God bless and be with your family.

His response, almost immediately:

He messaged me just a little while ago. They are being held at the Hospital. No one can leave or have personnel contact with any one out side. He says he is being very careful. I told him if things go south his father and I will come get him!

(Yes, I know the whole 'Uncle' thing, but at least it's some info)
 Quoting: archery mom

I hope they are at least paying for his meals! Does not sound good. I am glad I retired last year as a nurse. I am not religious but will say a prayer for him anyway.

I wonder if the CDC is going to require testing of the staff that had contact with that patient. Could be the prudent thing to do.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51728832

During a press conference earlier they said the children are monitored but the adults are under "self" monitoring.

Meaning they are counting on people to report if they develop symptoms.

Of the 12-18 known contacts that is.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58351648

Well which was it 12 or 18 ??

Or maybe 24. Nice round numbers, no?

(Ebola can't count.)

I keep hearing 21 day incubation. Is that the norm or do most present symptoms before 21 days. This patient, if the story is true, became ill 5-7 days after exposure.

It wasn't me that mentioned Obama, it was the guy I was talking to. I included his entire statement.

This guy is scared and angry. If he wants to blame Obama and his policies, ok by me.

Besides, I don't think you'll find many in this neck of the woods who disagree with him.

Not so sure, who do you think most will blame? I believe Obama will bear the brunt once this is unleashed in America. Perhaps this is the real reason for the change in SS and the whitehouse sprinter was a set up.

When the SHTF Obama will be hated and I believe if you are black and appear as if you are an immigrant your life will be in danger. Human nature will take over and it will get ugly real fast.

If symptoms present within a few days then the immune system can ward off debilitating illness for another 10 to 15 days, that's scary.

This means you know you are sick but you have 10 days to get to a life saving hospital. Desperate people do desperate things.

If this weren't such a serious situation, your post would have been funny. As for my uncle? I've got several and fortunately they live many states away. I have no idea as to their states of intoxication because I don't regularly talk with any of them. If it makes you feel better, though, several of them plant vegetable gardens in the summertime.

lol! "Voluntary Observational Dorm Schedule"....
THAT is really funny! But you are right, GoodMockingbird!
They wouldn't want to lock-down the whole hospital as
I'm sure with the medical system the way it is now
in most big cities, the community just couldn't manage
without having this medical facility working...not
only THAT (and this is kindof sickening, sorry....)
IF THERE ARE MORE EBOLA POSITIVE PEOPLE they can
be quarantened in one place, rather than trucking
them to the next hospital, exposing more medics.

V.O.D.S....That is really creative. Call Obama,
he needs all the "warm fuzzy" labels for this
thing he can get!
Thanks for the smile...I've been very upset
about this.
Cheers!

Ebola is a virus that affects the respiratory system, therefore is spread by particulates which become airborne through coughing or sneezing...as all respiratory viruses. Those particulates hang in the air and contact all surfaces they come in contact with. The question is how long do they live after the particulates dry up...some viruses only live for 5 minutes beyond that, some more. Airborne and very much contagious, not to mention VERY deadly!!! I would strongly suggest taking all precautions available. This is basic medical knowledge that the mainstream wants to wash over...and for what reason is the bigger question.

Do you have ANY LOCAL INFO on this?

Why would they quarantine everyone who had contact with him if it's not contagious that way?

IF so, they why did they not quarantine anyone who had contact with him outside the hospital?

Why were the kids and family members not quarantined?

Why quarantine a nurse, then?

It just matters what answer they want to spew out. None of it matters. They will make up the answers as they go along
