"Sonic BOOOOOOM", but not a sonic boom
Back around 1993 or 1994 my wife and I were asleep in a rented trailer home in Mamou, LA. I was awakened at around 12:30 AM by a heavy, loud, low frequency grumbling sound coming from the northwest and it alarmed me so much I sat up. It grew louder and louder and I noticed my wife sit up abruptly next to me as we looked at each other with a "well, I love you" look of fear and terror.

The "sound" hit our trailer with a "BOOOOOOM" hard enough to shake us nearly a foot too and fro, it rattled dishes and pictures fell, but none of the single pained windows broke on the trailer. The sound continued on its way toward the southeast and gradually got quieter and quieter.

The next day I asked one of my engineering professors if it could have been a sonic boom but he said no, you don't hear them coming, they just show up, BOOM and then quiet. I have since heard a sonic boom at a Blue Angels show and can confirm what we heard in our home was NOT a sonic boom. My physics professor scratched his head...no one could tell me what it was.

I was bored and watching some sort of Mysteries Unexplained show and saw a story about people in Virginia Beach who report the exact same thing.

SO, I am sharing my story to let others know they are not alone, and to hopefully hear from others with similar experiences.

Any ideas explanations are MORE than welcomed.

Re: "Sonic BOOOOOOM", but not a sonic boom
back where i used to live was a cave
it was fun to go there and scare younger kids to go in on a dare,

some 20 years later i suppose kids were still doing that and some rocks fell and killed 2,

so the city decided to do something about the cave,
the rigged it with explosives to cave in the cave,

the blast was so extensive that it created a ripple that registered as an earthquake.

one single jolt was felt miles away cracking streets sidewalks and damaging building walls,

maybe your BOOM was also an underground explosion.
