I live 14 miles from the CDC.
I know, I know...I could be considered a lucky citizen, or a very unlucky citizen due to the fact I live so close to one of the most contradicting and complex medical facilities in the world.

If shit gets bad...what are your thoughts on where it will get bad fast?
Atlanta? D.C? NY?

Will people just hunker down at home, or will they flee to the country/hills?

Or are there too many factors involved to predict what you would do the moment you see your neighbors panicking? Or the moment the media leaks something that shouldn't have been leaked?

I am curious to see what others have in mind.

Re: I live 14 miles from the CDC.
My hypothesis is that it will affect people in clusters. What I mean by this is at the top of the heap are the preppers, news junkies, alternative media listeners, "conspiracy theorists" this group will either bug out or at least be piling on the preps and hunkering down. The next group are those citizens who are hypochondriacs, and educated scientists, medical professionals with first hand knowledge. Then of course the Facebook moms and various others who will panic when the next few cases are revealed. The vast majority of the population whom I call the NFL heads and iPhone campers will be the last to move but when they do there will be little supplies left to buy and even fewer places to go. Chaos.

Interesting POV. What is crazy is that so many people are out of touch with what's going on. Are those, not in the know, more susceptible to fall into the majority of others who just don't have a clue? The ones I call "denial panickers"! I am seriously doubting a major meltdown over this, but, what if the worst happens and all hell breaks loose? Is it even possible? Does the govt have a strong enough grasp on the American society to keep us at bay and keep calm during this Ebola storm?

Its truly uncharted territory thats for sure. Im not sure how people will react. Ive seen some studies where in crisis people act in peace and support of one another but on the other hand with a communicable disease as the main problem I don't see that happening. And if ebola goes viral, then most likely the economic collapse will occur at the same time.

Re: I live 14 miles from the CDC.
you should worry more about MARTA.

The CDC as such is not going to be bad for you unless people flock to it hoping to storm it for a drug.

I have a relative near you then, not far from Emory Hospital.

Stay alert, stock up, limit contacts. That is what I would do if I were you.

and I am doing some of it here on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Good Luck.

You would think people would conform together and support each other...which may happen with neighborhoods, but the crazies going to loot from everyone else will stir the shit pot even more. And yes, the fact that it's a disease will affect how most people will respond to one another. It seems that contact with others will be limited.
