Just to put Ebola in some perspective.....
Total deaths so far from Ebola....
An update, the United Nations health agency said 3,338 had died of confirmed, suspected or probable cases of Ebolas through Sept. 28. A total of 7,178 cases have been reported.

now look at these numbers....from fighting and war.....
just for starters there have been more deaths in the Ukraine ALONE...then from Ebola.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

and we here on GLP know to almost double the deaths reported from wars and conflicts.

how about drunk driving???????
here is the total worldwide....ALONE!...to date this year!

1,907,631....and counting....

Re: Just to put Ebola in some perspective.....
while not wanting to be a downer, but looking at the UK figures, the Uk are building 500 beds in Sierra Leone to treat some of the Ebola patients, to back these 500 beds up the UK needs 100 facilities management teams, 600 clinical staff and 2,500 local clinical staff**

So some 3,100 people are needed to manage just 500 beds...

Now multiple that over the currently infected areas and you will see the impossible job there is just treating the infected let alone the sheer scale of numbers needed to contain this...

There is no containment in sight, there is not even enough resources to treat the infected...

And I do understand that you are trying to put this in perspective but you also have to understand that this needs to be contained otherwise those figures you quoted will be stomped on by this Ebola outbreak as that is where this is headed.

**from UK .gov souces via WHO which I will not post as I am sure many here would not wish to click those links however they can be found via simple search in reference to the UK-Serria Leone ebola conference held on the 2nd Oct 2014/

we might be better off to deal with what the planet and our surrounding hand out...if we were not thinking with our wallets and power status....
look at those numbers just from 2 issues stemming from our own greed and self-indulgences.

looking like drunk drivers will cause more deaths this year then any single OTHER disease will.

********************************************

Nine months........almost 2 million......from alcohol and driving.

That is even more than the 10 months long battle of Verdun (1916)

..............1 million casualties.......500,000 dead.

Re: Just to put Ebola in some perspective.....
This is true but remember, drunk driving deaths are basically staying where they will be, the flu and other common diseases have established themselves at a point where they stay pretty constant, these deaths are not increasing exponentially.

Ebola is in it's growth period and is encountering populations which have no experience with it. It may not be the world killer people are taking about, but it is unfair to compare something still growing to established problems. While ebola is small is the time to attack it.

If this Ebola strain becomes a Pandemic, then roughly 2 Billion people will die.

Take that drunk driving statistic and shove it up your ass.

War is not nearly as contagious as ebola.

kinda my point here......do not get distracted by the fear....there are many things we can fix things being covered over by fear.

stop the wars fight the germs with all that money.

less hunger better living conditions are much better then waring and shutting down the boarders.

but we might be too late for that.

my point here is we are killing more humans with greed and self-indulgence then any germ will.
