Don't you guys have a functional Animal Control? They are the ones that should be called in to deal with a rabid, dangerous animal. And by that I mean the cop not the poor racoon.

Then you just become another martyr. The aggressive behavior is on the rise because of web culture. Everyone is on edge when confronting police these days, and that's a huge problem for both sides of the fence. If you get pulled over and immediately give a stand-offish, no respect for the law attitude, it will not end good for you. They represent something essential in order for society to function. If the police went away, I promise you would learn who your true enemy is. It would not be the police.

Funny thing is... We shouldn't even tolerate being FORCED to wear seat belts! This was all just another way to pull people over to get something else on them.

I know someone who DIED as a result of being trapped in their car by a seat belt. Yes, we should have mandatory laws to strap babies ad toddlers in, but for an ADULT to have that decision made FOR them, and forced upon them?

I heard this call on the scanner. I guess the raccoon had attacked a dog. Animal Control would not come out. The dispatcher told the cop to take care of it. This is what Hammond has become.

FYI,my youngest is staying at the dorm there. The city council is going to be hearing from me.

The driver was the occupant of the car that was not wearing a seat belt, not the passengers.

Animal control will not deal with wildlife ... DNR will not deal with it unless it is hurt and then it's a many hour wait (been there, done that). usually the HPD will not even take the call.

Any thoughts on the info in the article you posted? Such as the 13 minute video showing a completely different story? The attempt to flee? The use of stop sticks?

What was the legal status of the passenger? Was there a warrant for his arrest?

There was no warrant for any occupants arrest. Stop sticks were put in front of the car, even though the occupants complied. The guy was charged with resisting arrest ONLY.
This story available on the site has been changed from the earlier story, with the addition of the mayors b.s. This is not the first time he has claimed to have video backing his side, and it turns out to be hogwash.

Sounds like another open and shut case of DWB. Maybe next time they will think twice about being black before entering their car.

However, I want to punch the driver.. WTF? the kids are scared to death and she is doing nothing to calm them down or tell them that It is ok. She just keeps talking on her phone saying, "this is terrible.", which will only scare them more.

Be a freaking parent - or simply adult- get off your damn phone and comfort crying children....

The cops were in the wrong. And, the crap that the mayor is spewing about how the car wouldn't stop and blah, blah, blah, is all b.s. IF the DRIVER was fleeing police, why wasn't the DRIVER arrested and charged with fleeing, resisting, etc? Why was the passenger harassed and arrested?

The mother ticked me off too. I would have done everything I could to calm my kids. BTW,she was on the phone with the police dispatcher, trying to get a supervisor to come out to the scene.That still is no excuse for ignoring the terrified kids in the back seat.

I guess the mayor and everyone else needs to know that if you're not driving the vehicle, you don't have to show your id....

According to Indiana law, only a driver of the motor vehicle has to have ID/drivers license, but all occupants must identify themselves. It is not against the law to not carry ID.

Sadly, you are probably right about the DWB.
