Just another case of ignorant Negroes purposely enticing the police into an altercation in an attempt to win the police ghetto lottery check!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44576437

It doesn't matter what color they were. This was so overboard. A simple ticket for the seat belt infraction by the driver, who was not the person arrested, would have sufficed. The arrested individual identified himself, as is required by Indiana law. Under Indiana law, you have to identify yourself, but you do not have to produce an ID. There was no cause whatsoever for the arrest. NONE.
 Quoting: tiger1

Don't argue with an obvious agent. They're boring. What a sad job they have. I can't even imagine how much they hate themselves.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 63730929

Haters got to hate.

IMO, all heck has broken loose here in Hammond, ever since the previous police chief left his post early this year. He was a good guy, and would not have put up with the behavior that has been displayed by some of the cops here.
People have had their dogs shot for no good reason, cops have abused their canine partners, and innocent people are being brutalized by the cops.
 Quoting: tiger1

Too much power to little unaccomplished pea brains will always end bad. These people are jackshit. They haven't built a damn thing in their life time. They literally are monkeys that we're forced to put up with. So, it's a bad situation. They have no brains, no talent, or no skill. They are just attack dogs with guns, vests, and radios.

It is bad. Retards with guns is always scary.

Don't make any sudden moves. Don't resist shit unless it is 100% a threat to you or your family. It's kind of like dealing with a bear in the wild. Best advise I can give.

I meant to send an email to the Mayor of Hammond, Indiana but sent it to the mayor of Hammond Louisiana by mistake.

An return email contained the following reply.

"I am the Mayor of Hammond, LOUISIANA. I have received a number of emails regarding the actions of the Hammond, Indiana, police department.

You may contact Mayor McDermott of Hammond INDIANA at [email protected]

I live in Hammond, IN...just this past Sunday my spouse and I watched a Hammond cop shoot a raccoon in a front yard, middle of the afternoon, VERY close to Purdue Calumet campus dorms - At LEAST Six shots. Apparently not content with the poor thing's near-death the officer allowed a neighbor to beat it to death with a large club.

Then you just become another martyr. The aggressive behavior is on the rise because of web culture. Everyone is on edge when confronting police these days, and that's a huge problem for both sides of the fence. If you get pulled over and immediately give a stand-offish, no respect for the law attitude, it will not end good for you. They represent something essential in order for society to function. If the police went away, I promise you would learn who your true enemy is. It would not be the police.

Should have been a ticket for no seat belt and on your way.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14190306

Funny thing is... We shouldn't even tolerate being FORCED to wear seat belts! This was all just another way to pull people over to get something else on them.

I know someone who DIED as a result of being trapped in their car by a seat belt. Yes, we should have mandatory laws to strap babies ad toddlers in, but for an ADULT to have that decision made FOR them, and forced upon them?

Bullshit.

I heard this call on the scanner. I guess the raccoon had attacked a dog. Animal Control would not come out. The dispatcher told the cop to take care of it. This is what Hammond has become.

FYI,my youngest is staying at the dorm there. The city council is going to be hearing from me.

Any thoughts on the info in the article you posted? Such as the 13 minute video showing a completely different story? The attempt to flee? The use of stop sticks?

What was the legal status of the passenger? Was there a warrant for his arrest?

There was no warrant for any occupants arrest. Stop sticks were put in front of the car, even though the occupants complied. The guy was charged with resisting arrest ONLY.
This story available on the site has been changed from the earlier story, with the addition of the mayors b.s. This is not the first time he has claimed to have video backing his side, and it turns out to be hogwash.

This is horrible- the police were way out of line...

However, I want to punch the driver.. WTF? the kids are scared to death and she is doing nothing to calm them down or tell them that It is ok. She just keeps talking on her phone saying, "this is terrible.", which will only scare them more.

Be a freaking parent - or simply adult- get off your damn phone and comfort crying children....

The cops were in the wrong. And, the crap that the mayor is spewing about how the car wouldn't stop and blah, blah, blah, is all b.s. IF the DRIVER was fleeing police, why wasn't the DRIVER arrested and charged with fleeing, resisting, etc? Why was the passenger harassed and arrested?

The mother ticked me off too. I would have done everything I could to calm my kids. BTW,she was on the phone with the police dispatcher, trying to get a supervisor to come out to the scene. That still is no excuse for ignoring the terrified kids in the back seat.

According to Indiana law, only a driver of the motor vehicle has to have ID/drivers license, but all occupants must identify themselves. It is not against the law to not carry ID.
