They analyzed his urine and wiped saliva from his lips, even after he had lost consciousness. About 70 staff members at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital were involved in the care of Thomas Eric Duncan after he was hospitalized, including a nurse now being treated for the same Ebola virus that killed the Liberian man who was visiting Dallas, according to medical records his family provided to The Associated Press. Less than 50% If there was some sort of break down in protocol procedures for handling and all 70 have it. Game over for Dallas. and none of them should have it at all. It isn't that bad in Liberia with health care workers. You people are being had. And you know this because you have recently been to Liberia - NOT! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 60983129 United States 10/13/2014 10:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There's the case of the baby that had no symptoms, tested negative, then abruptly died. It infected 12 nurses who handled him/her. Killed them ALL. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 62300001 Tests afterwards showed the virus postmortem. Google it. Nothing is certain with a virus that mutants with every single transmission. The CDC is all about not causing panic, less about saving people. All the hospital workers should have been Stage 4 Pathogen Hazmat protocol. Not one pair of gloves, apron, and booties, along with a duck bill mask. This is ludicrous. I read that story a few days ago but because it was a baby, I didn't think in the same terms. Interesting. Yes, CDC is about politics. That's what the United States has become, a culture of lies. Most people lie to themselvs about their lies. I've watched it happen over the past fifteen years. And now, with the deception of the CDC and ongoing incompetence, we can see the price of lies. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 62877421 United States 10/13/2014 10:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok there is no way our current policy for dealing with ebola is sustainable. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48053655 What is the CDC going to do? quarantine 70 hospital workers, the apartment complexes, the indirect contacts, the vehicles and not to mention the planes and passengers of every ebola patient that makes it to America like Duncan did? Plus all the other people/resources/hazmat crews that get called out to deal with this... The need to stop anyone coming from west africa period from entering the United States, whether they are suspected of having ebola or not. Period. The cdc is run by retards |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 52154903 The HUBRIS of the Hospital is amazing. The HUBRIS of the Local Authorities is amazing. It's what the United States is now. A culture of lies, deception and denial. Most people engage in it and lie to themselves about their lies. There's not many honest people left. Honest people are destroyed by the liars and only liars can get hired and get promoted. So everyone becomes part of the Bigger Lie. There's very few people paying attention to Ebola. Based on the Dallas school attendance, I estimate perhaps 5% are paying any high-level, strategic attention. There's another 5% who are tied into a network that warns them. The other 90% are oblivious. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 62329880 United States 10/13/2014 11:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i chalk it up to incurable optomism, people see a problem and think it won't happen to them. I have said this in other places but the problem will be that one patient can have been seen by 70 people. Full isolation is very labor intensive and over the years things have gotton more stringent in some ways at the cost of common sense. It takes time to put on and off even the cheap shit gear most facilities offer staff. Most hospitals are have not been equipped to provide the protection they need. it is not there fault, this is an unprecedented problem. i do think NYC is better prepared than most cities, at least in manhattan but this isn't going to be easy. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11247087 United States 10/14/2014 12:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | only 95-98% of people show symptoms by 21 days very important to remember that. as for the other 5% there isn't any defined time period for when they can start to show symptoms. they could have caught ebola but it could take say... 150 days to show symptoms... or much longer. that's why we could really be screwed here. people would need to be under watch for the rest of their entire lives if you want to be totally safe about it... i don't know if that's even practical once other cases pop up and watch list numbers start running into the thousands... they won't be able to keep that many people under watch without making at least 1 mistake regarding one person... and thats all it takes and things can start to really get out of hand game over folks link where u got that info pls. |

Makes you wonder what the heck we're going to do with our soldiers if and when they catch Ebola in Africa. They'll have to fly back here and we're going to treat them. I guess we'll suppossively have the vaccines n proper medical protocal by then. |

We will update when we have more information. - Jillian Quoting: Lex Talionis [link to www.breakingnews.com] My gosh! He just gave blood to the guy in Nebraska a couple days ago. I wonder how often, and how much he can give each time? Either Brantleys Onegative (if thats the 'universal' type) or they're 'lucky' to be the same blood type. Random fact: You can use salt water in a blood transfusion. |

The tone of the article was of a network effect, parents talking to each other. So I guesstimated those numbers. At midnight, I biked down to the 24-hour Walmart and bought some N95 masks, nitril gloves and Lysol. No stocking problems, which confirms my belief that at least 90% of the population is still asleep and will desperately try to stay asleep. I'll get a real mask tomorrow at Home Depot and leave Denver in the next few days, either Thurs or Sun, depending on how badly I want to spend one more weekend at my favorite nightclub before it goes *boom*. |
