so those 70 people affected suddenly need nurses, and the nurses in quarantine need replacement nurses, and for all the ones who walked off the job, they need replacement nurses, so there's suddenly a huge vacuum of nurses in Dallas with the first little tiny incident. hmm
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43683052

They are anticipating an influx of patients. Either that or they already have more than they can handle.
 Quoting: TrixieMama

At the very end of the press conference that was held Sunday morning at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas (where ebola patient Duncan died and a healthcare worker who attended him has also tested positive for ebola), the chief county medical officer messed up and leaked a HUGE and VERY TELLING FACT.

What this doctor inadvertently told the public was that an entire 24-bed former ICU area of the hospital had been cordoned off as it is the area in the hospital that has been designated for where only ebola patients will be cared for.

This obviously means that the medical experts in Dallas (and likely the CDC also) are anticipating there being future ebola patients in the Dallas area (multiple additional patients).

Here's a link to the thread that has the Sunday morning press conference at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas embedded in it.

The statement referred to above (there's a 24-bed ICU ready for use by ebola patients only) happens right at the end of the press conference just before the doctor who leaked the information is hurried off the stage.

I've been on the fence with this- waiting to see more patients from the Duncan apartment and connections, but it seems they are hidden away. I think they would have shown symptoms by now though.

He began feeling ill on the 24th of September and went to the ER the evening of the 25th initially, right? He was admitted the 28th and survived until the 8th of October. So, crunching the numbers for the average person to show symptoms between 8-10 days (up to 21), that would put the immediate contacts about October 3-5 from initially being sick on the 25th of September or if you figure average time from when he was admitted, that would be October 6-8.

October 15 is 21 days from him initially feeling sick (on the 24th of September).

October 19th is 21 days from his admittance date on the 25th of September.

October 29th is 21 days from his death date of October 8th.

So, I wonder is this anticipation of incoming or do they already have patients?
me, not signed in. sorry.

I noticed that too! Although, it could be that that wing was located in a better spot, away from other rooms? A lot of beds though for just 1 patient or even 2- yeah, I'm thinking that slip was because either others are already there or they are anticipating them....

As many of you know I am a nurse and over my 15 years in the field I have worked for various travel registry agencies. Today I received the following email...

Dallas Area Needs ICU and ER Nurses to assist Ebola Nursing Needs

Kelly Davenport
To (BLOCKED OUT FOR MY OWN PRIVACY) Today at 12:21 PM

Good Afternoon,
We received the below email from one of our staffing sources. This is a very difficult need to ask for assistance for from all of you I know. Nurses are often on the front lines when it comes to new and frightening diseases as you would be in this case. This might also be an opportunity to study the process of this disease and help to stop its spread throughout the U.S. Please read below and if you would consider this assignment please let us know.

Hello Everyone,
As you all know we have a situation in Dallas that is escalating in response to Ebola. The facilities there are in desperate need for ED and ICU nurses. At this point we do not have additional information in regards to rates, housing, etc. At this point we need to know of your nurses have a compact licensure and would be willing to go if needed. Please let us know as soon as possible.

Thank You,
Kelly & Leanne

Friends, this is REALLY disturbing. In 15 years of working with different agencies I have NEVER gotten an email like this. I think this helps prove things are MUCH MUCH worse than we are being told. I live on the West Coast, the only reason they would reach out nationwide is if they have an overwhelming amount of patients or a mass amount of nurses walk off the job. I suspect that they are expecting MASS impact from Duncan's case. The aren't expecting only a couple people to fall ill with Ebola, they are expecting an outbreak of pandemic proportions. This email speaks volumes!!

I will update with a link to photo when I figure out how to do it.

GOT THE SAME ONE

Also apparently for Cali and WA as well, but I think they are anticipating a RN walkout over this as opposed to a current infection

It's been mentioned on GLP before, so I'm not saying anything new...but WHY are they dealing with this as if it's an ordinary infection? The nursing and medical staff need to be trained in extreme biohazard scenarios before stepping into these positions. Think about every kind of "outbreak" movie you've seen, and you'll know what is generally required. The labs that test for this stuff are Bio-Safety Level 4, for Pete's sake.

Right now they are seeking volunteers. If they cant get people to volunteer for the jobs i suspect if it gets bad enough that they could legally sequester licensed nurses and force them under some government regulation to work.

so those 70 people affected suddenly need nurses, and the nurses in quarantine need replacement nurses, and for all the ones who walked off the job, they need replacement nurses, so there's suddenly a huge vacuum of nurses in Dallas with the first little tiny incident. hmm

Many thanks for sharing this OP - I have family in the nursing field, and really, I think the only true information we're going to get is from those, like you, on the front lines. Bless you, stay safe hf
