When they put the face to the nurse this afternoon, I reminded myself how much I love nurses and how they really are the one taking care of the patients. Yeah, the doctors, etc. but nurses are the ones we see the most and do all the hard work and crap work. They have to deal with the litany of emotions.
I really hope this young girl pulls through.

I am looking for work (not a nurse) and have several listed agency sites that I check.

There were several adverts for nursing staff at a higher rate than normal. The strange thing was is that they listed towns and places that don't even have a hospital??

Will check the sites again tonight.

so those 70 people affected suddenly need nurses, and the nurses in quarantine need replacement nurses, and for all the ones who walked off the job, they need replacement nurses, so there's suddenly a huge vacuum of nurses in Dallas with the first little tiny incident. hmm

There are only like, four hospitals nationwide that are equipped to handle ebola cases. At most, Texas Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas is updating their infection disease protocol.
I'm going to go ahead and nip this little fearmongering story in the bud.
This is a fake story, they are not recruiting for special nurses.

Thank you for the information. Must've been kind of scary to open your email and read something like this!

Please give us any additional information you may receive.

Just for giggles, have you considered writing back and inquiring what the pay scale is for such a risky assignment??
 Quoting: SeaCharger

YW. It was very disheartening to get this email and really shook me to the core.

I have not considered writing back just because I don't want to imply any interest, I don't want to plant a seed and then get cornered by the government saying that they know I showed interest at one point. At this point I don't trust anyone I don't know as well as I know myself.

I didn't watch the video but how can Ebola cause "human extinction" when people have already gotten it and recovered? Silliness.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 36102632

Even those who have already gotten it can get again, AFAIK. In other words, having had it would not immunize you.

And it's all in numbers. Although I don't believe at all it could cause actual human extinction. But that's just something I believe.

As many of you know I am a nurse and over my 15 years in the field I have worked for various travel registry agencies. Today I received the following email...

Dallas Area Needs ICU and ER Nurses to assist Ebola Nursing Needs

Kelly Davenport
To (BLOCKED OUT FOR MY OWN PRIVACY) Today at 12:21 PM

Good Afternoon,
We received the below email from one of our staffing sources. This is a very difficult need to ask for assistance for from all of you I know. Nurses are often on the front lines when it comes to new and frightening diseases as you would be in this case. This might also be an opportunity to study the process of this disease and help to stop its spread throughout the U.S. Please read below and if you would consider this assignment please let us know.

Hello Everyone,
As you all know we have a situation in Dallas that is escalating in response to Ebola. The facilities there are in desperate need for ED and ICU nurses. At this point we do not have additional information in regards to rates, housing, etc. At this point we need to know of your nurses have a compact licensure and would be willing to go if needed. Please let us know as soon as possible.

Thank You,
Kelly & Leanne

I copied and pasted the email to this post and will post a pic if someone can tell me how to embed it. I've been a member of GLP for 4 years and I know "pic or it didn't happen", LOL.

Friends, this is REALLY disturbing. In 15 years of working with different agencies I have NEVER gotten an email like this. I think this helps prove things are MUCH MUCH worse than we are being told. I live on the West Coast, the only reason they would reach out nationwide is if they have an overwhelming amount of patients or a mass amount of nurses walk off the job. I suspect that they are expecting MASS impact from Duncan's case. The aren't expecting only a couple people to fall ill with Ebola, they are expecting an outbreak of pandemic proportions. This email speaks volumes!!

I will update with a link to photo when I figure out how to do it.

GOT THE SAME ONE

Also apparently for Cali and WA as well, but I think they are anticipating a RN walkout over this as opposed to a current infection
 Quoting: Bodiless

Thanks for sharing you got the email as well. Its confirmation for any who had doubts. I didnt get an email for CA or WA, just Dallas. Be safe my friend!

Trixie, most of my 30 some years in the field are in GI Lab, Cath Lab, Neuro Lab, ER/MICU/CCICU and Specials got off the floor as soon as a possibility presented--traveled from Washington state to USVI been there done that saw the writing on the wall got out 5 years ago--won't go back.

THANK YOU for your eloquence and your candor--I believe you are "SPOT ON"

Hospitals are all about the bean counters now--many, not all, new grads know NOTHING about compassionate care--treating each patient like it was your mother, father, sister, or brother REGARDLESS of race, creed, nationality, belief system, or gratitude. It is all about a paycheck today from the chief administrator all the way down--I bet you have seen this yourself.

I don't know where "safe" is anymore--not trying to provoke fear, just observing the reality of it.

All of us need to value, nay, treasure, time with our friends and families. These are the salad days folks--

It is about to get very , very, very worse. Go research the Spanish Flu epidemic in the US after WWI--50,000 died in NEW YORK CITY ALONE Many generations haven't seen or even heard of such a thing, including my own--it was real then, it's REAL NOW.

Ive been on this companies "call" list for over 10 years. They wouldnt post this on their website. They are scared and sent the email privately to people signed up with them to avoid this going viral. Im sure they dont know about GLP and didnt expect this to be broadcasted the way i've put it out there. If you doubt the validity call and tell them you are interested in working with Ebola patients in Texas. By all means investigate it. The email is valid and another nurse here received the same email, someone i dont even know!

Flu season is going to be interesting. How will ER's know who's Ebola and who's the flu when they present at the ER??
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12781064

That is THE question and unless it's answered properly it will crash the medical care system.

The only way I see to handle it is anybody going to a hospital or clinic and is presenting with respiratory systems gets diverted to a triage facility where they get sorted out.

Hospitals will be restricted to true life-saving emergency care such as car accident victims and those who have been admitted by their doctors. The end of the walk-in emergency room is neigh.

How the respiratory triage is handled has great bearing on how the outbreak progresses. If people are whisked off to some FEMA isolation camp never to be heard from again, people will become afraid to seek treatment. Instead, they will elect to make the best of it on their own and end up spreading the disease around even more.

There are no really good answers, only bad, worse and terrible.

Along these same lines, OP, I sent an email about the Biosafety protocols to my pathologist friend, and he wrote me back and said he would not be anywhere near an ebola patient, autopsy, or even a test sample. He would leave his job before exposing himself, and this is a guy who runs Ironman Triathlons and rock climbs, with no safety gear, in his spare time, so he's no stranger to risky behavior. If this guy would walk away, we're in for a serious shitstorm anywhere it breaks out.

Bwahaha! You think I "doctored" the email? You are out of your mind! I've been a member here for 4 years, I have a good reputation here on GLP and have worked with that agency for years! Theres nothing false about that email, there is nothing fake about me. I've doctored nothing. I will gladly send a mod the email directly who can then confirm it's validity to you, I won't send it to you because IDK you and you don't know my personal email address or real name. Guess you are calling another nurse here on GLP a liar too because they also got the same email from a reputable company. The fact that you are saying there is ZERO truth here shows you are a shill. Before you start calling people out on putting fake things up here and doctoring things you out to do a little research and see what the persons history is. And btw, nurses in training would be last to know! I've been in healthcare for over 20 years and worked as a nurse for 15. I've worked at University Hospitals, I know how it all works and I can tell you that the only thing with ZERO truth being presented here is your post. Re: Dallas Hospitals ACTIVELY RECRUITING RN's to Treat EBOLA Patients *Link Included*
The university I attend has their health science majors, including pre-med and nursing majors, perform their clinicals at Tx Presby of Dallas and no, they're not.
There is not 'escalating situation' in Dallas, there are not rampant cases of ebola popping up.

Are you an idiot? They treated Duncan at that hospital despite not being an approved Ebola tx facility. They didn't send him to a specialized unit nor nurse Pham. You obviously are a shill and know nothing. There's NO fear mongering here just truth!
 Quoting: TrixieMama

I'm a Biology major, have a passion for virology, and have several friends that do their clinicals at that hosptial. There is absolutely no reports of requesting specialized nurses, and if it were that necessary, it would definitely be passed to the nurses-in-training.
There is ZERO truth being presented here. The picture you posted is most likely doctored, as that technology is behind every meme on Facebook, and BuzzFeed list.

Stop being a sheep and open your eyes....I have NO reason to fabricate or lie about anything. I stand by the pic and the post.

Considering that I have friends that are nurses, and training to be nurses, in real life and they have not got this email, yeah there is zero truth. But rant and insult away because that changes people's mind.

In spite of your ridiculous insults, I actually came on to say that in light of the recent stories from the Netherlands, this new ebola patient, them flying the day before being diagnosed ('they' were infectious at that point), yeah, I concede.
I can admit when I am wrong.

I never said that there wasn't a reason to be worried about the virus, as I've posted stuff on my own regarding this. I am very worried, I'm stating that they aren't calling for specialized nurses.
But yes, with recent events this morning, shit is really serious. Presby has sent all of the nursing students, volunteers, and non-essential staff (regular doctors, nurses, and specialized cleaning crews working for the hospital) home.
I not only live in the metroplex, I also attend school with people that have been crawling all over the hospital. Yes, I'm freaking out quite a bit and have been asking my own questions to the people that I know that work there and whatnot (as I've stated a million times).
I'm sorry that it offends you that I'm arguing against the email, but none of them have heard of any message like that going out.

Baroness, once again, agreeing with Trixie, it is HIGHLY unlikely that they would have had notice---I never recieved notices directed to me from traveling agencies until I listed with them--they abjectly TURN away people in the business with less than 5-10 years seasoning and don't even talk to students--for very good reasoning. RN's NEED seasoning when out of school for at LEAST a 3 year period to inculcate them into the profession. There is a WIDE variety of skill sets based upon the REGION you are trained in--my traveling experience denotes this.

I don't recall Trixie saying they are looking for "specialized" RN's--just RN's with experience(a given).

PLEASE take this seriously--we have NO REASON to fabricate. Knowledge is POWER POWER gives you the wherewithal to INFORM yourself(do your own research). Please call the numbers listed to verify if you do not believe.
