Either that or they already have more than they can handle. At the very end of the press conference that was held Sunday morning at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas (where ebola patient Duncan died and a healthcare worker who attended him has also tested positive for ebola), the chief county medical officer messed up and leaked a HUGE and VERY TELLING FACT. What this doctor inadvertently told the public was that an entire 24-bed former ICU area of the hospital had been cordoned off as it is the area in the hospital that has been designated for where only ebola patients will be cared for. This obviously means that the medical experts in Dallas (and likely the CDC also) are anticipating there being future ebola patients in the Dallas area (multiple additional patients). Here's a link to the thread that has the Sunday morning press conference at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas embedded in it. The statement referred to above (there's a 24-bed ICU ready for use by ebola patients only) happens right at the end of the press conference just before the doctor who leaked the information is hurried off the stage. In fact, at this point, there is already, no end in sight. I am going to go walk my dogs. This is the beginning of a very long, very drawn out, very chaotic and very confusing shit storm. Coming storms of fear, anger, outrage, disease, anguish, mourning, sorrow, paranoia, crazed laughter ahead. For a long time to come... Here we go. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 44353767 United States 10/14/2014 12:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been on the fence with this- waiting to see more patients from the Duncan apartment and connections, but it seems they are hidden away. I think they would have shown symptoms by now though. He began feeling ill on the 24th of September and went to the ER the evening of the 25th initially, right? He was admitted the 28th and survived until the 8th of October. So, crunching the numbers for the average person to show symptoms between 8-10 days (up to 21), that would put the immediate contacts about October 3-5 from initially being sick on the 25th of September or if you figure average time from when he was admitted, that would be October 6-8. October 15 is 21 days from him initially feeling sick (on the 24th of September). October 19th is 21 days from his admittance date on the 25th of September. October 29th is 21 days from his death date of October 8th. So, I wonder is this anticipation of incoming or do they already have patients? |

I live on the West Coast, the only reason they would reach out nationwide is if they have an overwhelming amount of patients or a mass amount of nurses walk off the job. I suspect that they are expecting MASS impact from Duncan's case. The aren't expecting only a couple people to fall ill with Ebola, they are expecting an outbreak of pandemic proportions. The nursing and medical staff need to be trained in extreme biohazard scenarios before stepping into these positions. Think about every kind of "outbreak" movie you've seen, and you'll know what is generally required. The labs that test for this stuff are Bio-Safety Level 4, for Pete's sake. |
