Thanks for the update OP, five stars.applause

The email you received is very telling and indicates that the situation in Dallas is much larger and more ominous than those controlling the information are willing to publicly admit, and frankly I am not at all surprised.

Please take care of yourself, and realize that CIDRAP recommends respirators for those caring for Ebola patients and has since mid-September.

Here is a link to the article, please read it carefully.

Nurses really are on the very front line. You need to know how to properly protect yourselves and demand proper protection in caring for those infected with this very high risk disease. I am also in health care, and although I do have patient contact, it tends to be less direct. Despite this, we all need to take care of ourselves and stay vigilant.

Wishing you health, safety, and all the best,
eehf

so those 70 people affected suddenly need nurses, and the nurses in quarantine need replacement nurses, and for all the ones who walked off the job, they need replacement nurses, so there's suddenly a huge vacuum of nurses in Dallas with the first little tiny incident. hmm

I'm curious as to what would happen if places seeking RN's are unable to get as many as they need? Would volunteer's even be up for consideration?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55915768

Right now they are seeking volunteers. If they cant get people to volunteer for the jobs i suspect if it gets bad enough that they could legally sequester licensed nurses and force them under some government regulation to work.
 Quoting: TrixieMama

Could they do that to HHA's ?

As many of you know I am a nurse and over my 15 years in the field I have worked for various travel registry agencies. Today I received the following email...

Dallas Area Needs ICU and ER Nurses to assist Ebola Nursing Needs

Kelly Davenport
To (BLOCKED OUT FOR MY OWN PRIVACY) Today at 12:21 PM

Good Afternoon,
We received the below email from one of our staffing sources. This is a very difficult need to ask for assistance for from all of you I know. Nurses are often on the front lines when it comes to new and frightening diseases as you would be in this case. This might also be an opportunity to study the process of this disease and help to stop its spread throughout the U.S. Please read below and if you would consider this assignment please let us know.

Hello Everyone,
As you all know we have a situation in Dallas that is escalating in response to Ebola. The facilities there are in desperate need for ED and ICU nurses. At this point we do not have additional information in regards to rates, housing, etc. At this point we need to know of your nurses have a compact licensure and would be willing to go if needed. Please let us know as soon as possible.

Thank You,
Kelly & Leanne

I copied and pasted the email to this post and will post a pic if someone can tell me how to embed it. I've been a member of GLP for 4 years and I know "pic or it didn't happen", LOL.

Friends, this is REALLY disturbing. In 15 years of working with different agencies I have NEVER gotten an email like this. I think this helps prove things are MUCH MUCH worse than we are being told. I live on the West Coast, the only reason they would reach out nationwide is if they have an overwhelming amount of patients or a mass amount of nurses walk off the job. I suspect that they are expecting MASS impact from Duncan's case. The aren't expecting only a couple people to fall ill with Ebola, they are expecting an outbreak of pandemic proportions. This email speaks volumes!!

I will update with a link to photo when I figure out how to do it.

I work at a hospital in DFW. We had a meeting today regarding getting the proper equipment to handle Ebola patients should they come into our work area. I jokingly mentioned Ebola hazard pay, and my manager said that it's a possibility because there was a mass exodus of nurses at Dallas Presby.

If confirmed Ebola cases keep popping up in hospitals, the nurses will leave in order to protect our families and ourselves. The hospitals aren't going to protect us, so we have to look out for ourselves.

From the CDC's website. [link to www.cdc.gov]

"BSL-4 builds upon the containment requirements of BSL-3 and is the highest level of biological safety. There are a small number of BSL-4 labs in the United States and around the world. The microbes in a BSL-4 lab are dangerous and exotic, posing a high risk of aerosol-transmitted infections. Infections caused by these microbes are frequently fatal and without treatment or vaccines. Two examples of microbes worked with in a BSL-4 laboratory include Ebola and Marburg viruses."

Exponential function of growth, coupled with your standard project management problems. Lack of experience, learning curve, coordination, critical path management of supply chain stuff.

One of the doctors in Liberia said, "The virus was always ahead of us".

You can see it now, yes?

All a function of greed, sloth, hubris.

I wondered how it would go, what would break first.

For ten years, I've been cross-country over the United States, eight times now and the greed, sloth and hubris got worse each year. I wasn't religious when I started and I still wonder a lot but wow, this really looks like a biblical judgement.
