The nursing and medical staff need to be trained in extreme biohazard scenarios before stepping into these positions. Please take care of yourself, and realize that CIDRAP recommends respirators for those caring for Ebola patients and has since mid-September. Here is a link to the article, please read it carefully. [link to www.cidrap.umn.edu] Nurses really are on the very front line. You need to know how to properly protect yourselves and demand proper protection in caring for those infected with this very high risk disease. I am also in health care, and although I do have patient contact, it tends to be less direct. Despite this, we all need to take care of ourselves and stay vigilant. I know the situations aren't really comparable, but this reminded me of my mom. She was an ICU nurse during a state of emergency in the 90s here in PA. It was just weather-related, but the roads were all closed to civilian traffic. She was not permitted to call off work. They sent the National Guard to our house to bring her to and from work with several others. If they would do that over a blizzard, I could definitely see them doing some sort of mandatory situation in this case. I know it's very different, but it shows they don't take no for an answer. |

I'm in Texas and yesterday my bestie called her nurse friend who works at a hospital 10 min away from Dallas Presby. The highlight of the report back to me: Presby ICU docs claim there was no possible way there was a "breach in protocol". That is what the CDC us making them tell the media to prevent mass hysteria. Since there really was no breach, means that it can be spread in a way beyond mere contact. |

I will post anything i get because we all have a right to be informed. I have heard there was a mass walk off. Several of my close friends who are successful, established MDs are fleeing to live off the grid and giving up the profession they sacrifices so much for. A couple emailed me in July and told me it was time to get out. They never went into detail other than saying it wasn't safe anymore.
