New York City losing it's fight against rats: Citizen complaints about pests jumps to 24,586 last year.
New York is losing the rat race.
Citizen complaints about pests to the 311 hotline plus online reports went from 22,300 in fiscal year 2012 to 24,586 the next year, city Comptroller Scott Stringer said Sunday.
"Rats are a daily, stomach-turning insult to New Yorkers - whether they're scurrying over people's feet on the sidewalks, invading homes where children sleep or swarming through restaurants," Stringer said.

Ebola rats! damned

shoulda cut the balls off all those rats instead of all those cats.free range cats are a benefit to cities, too bad all the animal lovers want to put them in the pound or hoard them.

a howling horny tom cat means good luck.

ive started a bunch out here in the country because of rats.
they also kill gophers and squirrels.
which means more fruits, vegetables and nuts for me.plus the cats feed themselves most of the time.i give them just enough to keep them around.not enough to get fat.
im not god but i play one on glp.

I live in rural NYS and I've had a free-range cat for 19 years this november. He's castrated, but he just naturally became an outdoor cat. So loyal, so many birds.

Rats are part of the New York City Decor.

They are ingrained in the New York City state of mind.

Sure they are cute, I trapped one once and then let it go.
That little asshole burrowed under my compost pit, found a little rat girlfriend and multiplied at an exoponential rate. They ran out of room and invaded my house.

Took me years, lots of decon and an AWESOME cat to get rid of that family. I think the cat caught more than any of my efforts combined, sometimes 2 or 3 a night.

Its a sore subject with me lol.

cats are fukin awesome. i rescue and spay/neuter them and release them around my house. i save them from the plant i work at. i leave some to help with mice and rats, but the boss is a cat hater and wants to get rid of them . had a brand new pump put in at a cost of 40 Gs and it took the rats 2 weeks to eat through the power cords. now boss is looking for rat control/ poison. told him to leave it to the cats, but its like talking to a brick wall painted in retarded.

There are a couple of old time ways to deal with rat problems

1)Put two in a cage eventually they will get that hungry they will attack each other. The victor then has a taste for ratty. Let him loose and he will go kill and eat all rats he can find.

2) Put tar down on their runs, they get covered in it and bring it back to the den. Results in rat family all stuck together.

A lot of the buildings have cats.

My daughter's apt building has 6 cats who live in basement...

Superintendent feeds the cats. Cats work hard!

No rodents in that building.
