Once you add in the deductible I have to meet before they even pay a dime I am at 23K and then they only pay 80%. I will be close to $30K in medical next year assuming nothing happens to me or my 2 girls as we have our own deductibles that have to be met also. Where does it end..... |

I can't not have insurance now as they will fine me and we need it, but they have messed it up so bad now I can't afford it. This is going to be what crushes the middle class. At some point you will be like us and have 3 or 4 things happen in one year and be forever in the hole. I am sick to my stomach |

Being self employeed I can write off my expenses for medical up to a certain point, how would the HSA differ from that write off. If there are HSA with policies attached then that would be great if they are less money. Just trying to find any way to cut back on some of these expenses. I think I am having a mid life crisis and this shit is giving me an ulcer.... |

My coverage is for 3 adults and two smoke. Monthly is $650 but my family is healthy. Yours has multiple surgeries. I spend a little on scripts and a doctor visit or two. I keep the deductable in reserve. I spent about $8500 total last year vs the 22k. |

HSA qualified plans are higher deductible, and the account lets you put money into it tax free to use for your medical expenses and deductibles. Last year I put the max of $6,450 in mine at tax time. You can put in more, but that was the cap for the tax free and after that there is no advantage tax wise. The HSA used to be better, but even that has been screwed by Obamacare and the mandated coverage. Mine used to only cover major medical (actually all medical) after the $5,500 deductible was met ($5,500 each for the wife and myself)but now it is bloated with the mandatory Obamacare bullshit I don't want or need that made the premiums go up. The nice thing is that after our plan reaches the deductibles they pay 100%, so we are basically self insuring up the $11,000 per year then they pick up the rest. anonanon User ID: 36715343 United States 10/21/2014 12:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thank Obama and the Democrats for passing his "Affordable Care Act." Insurance premiums for everyone who didn't get raised or enrolled in the Medicaid Obamacare programs is getting raised now. Includes all those who are self-employed, all those who have an shared employer paid plan, and all those on medicare who have a supplemental plan which you simply cannot do without. So now, premiums, deductible levels and out of pocket limits are all going up on everyone else. Next year the penalty for no insurance will start going higher. Remember, election in 2 weeks. Only way to beat this sucker Ponzi plan is to elect a veto proof - two thirds majority of Republicans in both the House and the Senate. They can then repeal and replace it and still override a Presidential Veto. Most people are in for quite a shock as you have found out. The notices are starting to arrive in the mailboxes now. Do remember this as you vote....and you must vote or this stays the same. |

We were in the same boat and had to go without insurance. Just totally unaffordable. I honestly believe this was done on purpose to help destroy the middle class. One night I was surfing the net and came upon a forum for insurance agents. They were talking about how the middle class was going to become the "uninsured class" because the rates and deductibles were ridiculously high. Well, it's happening. I have no more wealth to redistribute, and now I have no healthcare. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 63378084 United States 10/21/2014 03:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All of your assets will either be sold by you or taken to cover your medical expenses. When you have no significant assets or income, you will receive health care. If you refuse that, you will refuse to have healthcare, and will lose your children and may be incarcerated. Your other option is to get a job. And I'd also like to point out, that your premiums very well could have, or would have been higher without the ACA, and your wife almost certainly would have been uninsurable without the ACA, meaning, NO HEALTHCARE for her. That is a reality many people still stuck in the RvD paradigm refuse to acknowledge. I'm not a shill, and HARDLY any kind of Obola supporter, but I encourage you to do research on the rate increase as well as preexisting condition issues (outside of glp). While you're out there, I'd encourage you to investigate the cost of care in the US and the quality of medical outcomes vs the rest of the world, even third world countries... it does not look good for the US. I'd also like you to bring that information back to glp, so you can be tarred and feathered as a shill. :) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 49566394 United States 10/21/2014 04:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My husbands work keeps taking out money for insurance we just can't afford the deductible to even use it. I need two painful screws removed from my ankle to be able to go back to work and there is no way I can ever afford the catastrophic deductible, so I just stopped going to the doctor completely. Mu husband also knows that if I even need EMS services in the future to not call them for me as we can't afford any more bills other than what they take out of his check every 2 weeks for work coverage There is no more middle class, I should know, I used to be one. I'm 55, I doubt I will ever see the inside of another doctor's office or hospital again in my lifetime due to the cost. |
