I care more about them than some stupid dog. Those "filthy Africans" are HUMAN BEINGS who need are help.

If you care more about some dog, your moral compass is broken. Fix it.

I love dogs yet I generally agree. In this case I think , however , they are doing the right thing in saving the dog so they can do further studies to test whether or not dogs can transmit or not. As far as I know it has not yet been determined. The lack of empathy for the West Africans has been truly appalling and disheartening.

This is the same person that said all the wasted food in America could go to starving people in Africa!

The government is afraid that people with pets may not come forward or seek medical help if they have ebola BECAUSE of their pets and the fear that they (the pets) may be put down unnecessarily.

People love their pets...I know that I do.

Having written that...I do feel for the folks that have contracted the disease and have passed. It must be a miserable way to die.

The only logical response to the dog is to save her.

Just think about it for a moment. Why would anyone want to nurse and Ebola patient if they knew that their furbabies would be murdered if they contract the virus? They are already going to get everything they own dumped in a hazardous waste dump. If you kill the dog, you take everything.

Not to mention one shouldn't be fighting for their life while grieving for a pet. Ever lost a fur loved one? When my last dog died I was a mess for a week and still get teary eyed a decade later. Going through that emotional mess lowers one's immune system. And could be the reason why the nurse in Spain died!!!

There are many Americans who would delay going to the doctor, or not go at all if they were infected with Ebola, and thought that their pets would be sacrificed on the alter of efficiency. I personally would use my last drop of strenght to hide my doggies far away, and leave them with several months of food and water. (With a note to a family member to be read a month after I died to pick them up.)

There is ZERO evidence that dogs can give anyone Ebola. But there are plenty of people like me who would sleep well at night cuddled up to our furbabies, all the while the dog killers are buried underneath our rose bushes. Don't come for my dogs, I will fight to keep them alive.

If dogs can be a vector for transmitting the disease, they better learn what they can about it.

That's the thing you gotta remember about WASPs - they love animals, they can't stand people.

There are a lot of things we like to tell ourselves about our own natures. We try not to stereotype, not to hate, not to hurt,.. much. We try not to think bad things, act in bad ways, do bad things. But we do, and then we hide all these things behind a veil, the translucent veil we call civilization.

Ebola is starting to lift that veil just so ever slightly, to give us all a peek of what's underneath. Be careful my friends, for we may not like what we see. Ebola has the power to reveal our true natures, what lay beneath and I believe that is going to terrify a lot of people.

None of us has ever seen anything like what Ebola has the potential to do. Not since the Black Death has humanity faced such a monster. Some who have lived through wars, people who have lost loved ones, they have caught a glimpse of but only its shadow. We watch movies like The Stand and Contagion, TV shows like The Walking Dead and then think we know what is coming. What is coming is all of them and more, much, much, terribly, more.

I'm glad they saved this little dog, I truly am. It's nice to see life being given for a change on this world. It helps one maintain their faith in the humanity of,... humanity.

As for Africa, it is lost, as are all the other Third and Second tier nations of this planet. Even the mighty First tier nations of this planet will be laid low and humbled. We just haven't realized it yet, it hasn't been revealed to us yet, no one told us to scream yet,... but it will and I just did.

There is a monster coming for these third and second tier nations and it will consume them completely and as sad and tragic as it is, there is nothing anyone can do to stop this now. Save your resources, your money, your strength, your compassion, your hope and your love, for your own. Trust me, we will all need it soon enough.

But I don't want to end this on such an apocalyptic note. Let's see, Ebola did not kill a pretty little nurse today. Ebola did not kill a cute little dog today and neither did the little monsters amongst us. I'd call that a pretty good day. A win for us. I suggest we take it and appreciate it for what it is, for in the coming days I fear they will be few and far between indeed.

The dog is a key player in a possible outbreak/spread scenario.

We know Ebola has several species that it uses as host species. In some, unlike primates and humans, Ebola just sits around happily waiting for the host to meet a species it can jump to and kill.

A dog contracting Ebola could signal a new route of transmission which would have serious implications in the control and stop of spread of Ebola.

Dogs are a greater risk because of how friendly they are and how humans take their dogs for walks, dog parks, beaches, etc.

We need to know if a dog having casual contact with an infected human can contract the disease. We also need to know if dogs can play as reservoir hosts, which is to say a carrier that doesn't die, or if dogs will succumb to the infection.

If they succumb, well that isn't a big threat, any dog that gets infected will die, or self heal and cease to be a carrier.

If they don't succumb and become just a reservoir host... Well that won't end well for humanity.
