ALERT: Nuclear Accident in Illinois tonight at Honeywell plant, shelter in place

I seriously would immediatly leave anywhere near that plume model. We don't know how this chemical disperses, it could quickly become diffuse, it could settle out to the ground, or it could eddy and gust.

I'd really hate to be caught in an eddy or gust of Uranium Hexafloride.

Take your animals, say goodbye to the tomatoes, or take them, I don't care, but if you can leave, do it.

If you can't, and/or if you've already gotten a heavy dose, there are things you need to do as quickly as possible to mitigate the effects. You'll have to look around for a few credible sources, but CP's will get you where you need. And get your mask you bought for the Ebola hoax on right this second.

I really hope this inspires anyone who hasn't gotten a good filtered mask with eye protection to get that taken care of soonest. You don't really know what you're buying it for, but you'll be damn glad in a situation like this to be breathing through at least a N95(?) fully enclosing mouth and nose mask, and looking at the pink clouds through fully sealing goggles.

Nuclear hormesis is bullshit, but there is a paradoxical effect of getting high doses at once of radioisotopes. In the right circumstances a person can get their body to quickly excrete the toxins before lethal damage can occur.

In this case, the internet is your friend. Make sure you focus your reaserch on nutballs and lunatics. They seem to tend to turn out to be right when things like this "no possible release to the external environment" bullshit goes down.

I am supposed to have a phone call first thing in the am with the NRC Region II in Atlanta because I pitched a fit on their hotline last night. I'll see what they say, status of the plant, what WAS the problem, is it still leaking, will the EPA be brought in to investigate residents complaints, confirm the plant is shut down, why is it shutdown, etc etc.

OK, I've been quiet but head down for the last few days on this....


1. Same as the WIPP plant.. no news is bad news.
2. Atmospheric conditions were volatile, in that their spread forecasts are rubbish.
3. The situation of atmospheric releases is unknown as they submit that it was, and "Still is" contain either interior, or on site.

Has anyone been admitted to the nearby hospitals showing any symptoms of radiation poisoning or exposure to other toxic chemicals?
Did anything release into the Ohio River?
Are any precautionary steps being taken to test downstream?
Groundwater contamination?
If there was no risk of exposure, why were "standard emergency procedures" necessary?
If everything is fine, why is the plant shut down?
Has FEMA been contacted?
Has DHS been contacted?
Will this affect any NFL games on Sunday?

Cameron says the hour long release on Sunday night was different than any he had experienced before.

"There was a big cloud that come over this way toward our area up over the trees," said Cameron.

USW Local 7-669 spokesman John Paul Smith says their training teaches them differently.

“Water is heavier than air so water is going to sink to the ground, it could be a cloud but it is going to go down,” said John Paul Smith. “HF vapor is lighter than air so it's going to move up. The cloud we saw leaving the facility was definitely moving horizontal and up."
"It's ridiculous,” said Cameron. “They have these leaks and they say it's contained every time. It's not contained, everybody stood there and watched it."


It could take up to a week for a preliminary assessment from the NRC before any answers are released.

Who cares? in my opinion to tell that coal plants are more unhealthy than nuke plants is completely tard:

1) there are no pictures on the net showing genetic malformations to animals, plants and men living near a coil plant... vice-versa is enough a short search on google to find monsters because of nuke plants

2) if something goes wrong in a coal plant they turn it off and immediately the pollution cease... vice-versa if something go wrong in a nuke plant there's no way to stop it: even if that shit is inactive they have to cool down for at least 30 years to avoid a terrible disaster...

3) in the worse scenario in a coal plant is enough to stop activities to immediately cease pollutions and troubles.
In the worse scenario for a nuke plant an entire region is lost for 30 years while radioactivity will last for thousands years

NEW VIDEO shows that release was going on for at least 6 full minutes before sprayers were even activated.

Guess all those locals weren't lyin, huh.

Just got off the phone with Public Affairs at the NRC, video upcoming

I have more questions now than I did before :/

NRC is on-site, has been since Monday (one guy).

Area in plant is still being decontaminated.

Plant is SHUT DOWN until investigation is complete.

Interviews show sabotage was unlikely.

Preliminary indications is there was a weakness in joint at bottom of container, mettalurgy testing may be needed.

SO FAR it doesn't look like contamination made it over the fence, but they are still looking at data. Sketchy answer.

Aware of reports of people smelling and tasting something possibly toxic.

Runoff "probably" went into drains and wells will show it, but he was unsure if drains even exist on property!

No indication Ohio River was contaminated, EPA (and possibly Illinois FEMA?) is there testing too.

Not aware of anyone from surrounding community went to ER for treatment, but he was very sketchy about this.

He seemed a little exasperated at the end, not sure.



I will update when preliminary report is released in a few days, full report not for 30 days.

IMPORTANT: Injuries now being reported in community surrounding Honeywell.

Union representatives are reporting that seven people north of the plume suffered burns and that another seven to ten at or near the EEI plant who had sheltered in place also suffered injuries. Union employees walking a picket line Sunday night distributed a video of the release; however, Honeywell claims it was spray used to contain leaks.

On the union's Facebook page, a posting provides media links for anyone injured to speak out. Local media have been accused of taking the plant's word for it.

Whistleblowers and retired workers at other former nuclear materials plants (i.e. Portsmouth, Ohio, and Hanford, Washington) have alleged and /or produced copies of contracts that provide significant financial incentives to Department of Energy contractors who have injury free records and have no emissions that drift beyond the plant property.

Another source indicated that about a month ago, three workers were hurt inside the plant, but were told not to tell anyone about their injuries.
