Was the earth and biosphere divinely created or did it all just fit together bit by bit by random chance in empty space?

Both.

What we perceive as 'random chance' may actually be far more indicative of 'an invisible hand' or God.

The saying 'God works in mysterious ways' should be all we need to keep in mind when we contemplate the universe.

If it was constructed I don't think it was by god in the sense world religions think. It wasn't Jesus's dad. If a god exists it doesn't look like anyone or thing on this rock and would probably be something out of our realm of comprehension.

He asked "how did you build this model"?

Newton replied "I didn't".

Colleague: "it just magically appeared on your desk one day"?

Newton: "that is what you believe about the real solar system, why wouldn't you believe it about a model"?
