A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents within 2 to 3 miles of that location. |

The entire site is still fenced off. I am sure it is still monitored by the EPA. There were many concerns the toxins from there were going to leak into the Clinton River, adjacent to the site. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 58824130 ![]() 11/18/2014 02:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What kind of chemical could be pumped into a water treatment facility then crystalize and explode??? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58776263 It sounds like a truck used to clean out septic tanks and then disposes the waste at the facility. So it could be anything. Most septic tanks in private homes are just toilet, shower, and kitchen waste water. But whatever it was obviously wasn't typical. |

Since when it is a solid Crystal? 100% hydrogen peroxide is very nasty stuff as a liquid, very caustic, and very explosive, so much so it has been used as rocket fuel from time to time. It can be in crystal form: The molecular structures of gaseous and crystalline H2O2 are significantly different. This difference is attributed to the effects of hydrogen bonding, which is absent in the gaseous state.[5] Crystals of H202 are tetragonal with the space group D_4^4 P4_12_1.[6] [link to en.wikipedia.org] I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. NewsBee User ID: 62920449 ![]() 11/18/2014 02:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Chlorine "It is often impractical to store and use poisonous chlorine gas for water treatment, so alternative methods of adding chlorine are used. These include hypochlorite solutions, which gradually release chlorine into the water, and compounds like sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione (dihydrate or anhydrous), sometimes referred to as "dichlor", and trichloro-s-triazinetrione, sometimes referred to as "trichlor". These compounds are stable while solid and may be used in powdered, granular, or tablet form. When added in small amounts to pool water or industrial water systems, the chlorine atoms hydrolyze from the rest of the molecule forming hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which acts as a general biocide, killing germs, micro-organisms, algae, and so on" Last Edited by NewsBee on 11/18/2014 02:56 PM |
