Re: Should toy guns be banned to protect innocent children from police brutality?
The object the child was wielding wasn't a toy. It was a replica 1911 BB gun.

BB guns are not toys. You generally have to be over 18 to purchase them and many of the laws that govern firearms also apply to BB guns.

The picture of the BB gun is in the link below. It looks very real.

Is there a problem with police using lethal force in an unjustified manner in this country? Absolutely. But it does not help your case to dishonestly claim the child was carrying a toy, which implies some plastic orange tipped object that doesn't look like a real firearm, nor have the ability to kill things like birds, rats, and cats and seriously injure other creatures.
 Quoting: KonspiracyKitty

To classify a BB gun as the same as a deadly weapon is being deliberately obtuse.

These guns have been played with by children for decades, thus they are toys.

The problem isn't the gun, the orange tip (or lack thereof) or the fact that it shot BB's.

It is the "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality of the cops in this country.

We need to disarm the police, not the children.

rather ban police to protect our children from police brutality...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2003899

We should not ban the Police, just their ability to have weapons of any kind. That will cause 80% to quit the force, which will eliminate most of the idiots.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65457806

wow superb plan. and then what? without police we will have those ferguson types to patrol the streets and keep them safe? or its just gonna be one big free for all for gangbangers and drugdealers etc?

I don't know about that.
Having witnessed more than one 'boot shining' party makes me think that they have a propensity to "social" activities. Guns or not, the gang mentality prevails.

No.

PARENTS are responsible for their kids.

Why was a 12 year old allowed to have a BB Pistol unsupervised in the first place?

It is the PARENTS fault that their kid is dead, not the cops who shot him.

I'm confident that without the police force, people would actually ban together to take care of each other and eliminate evil. We would do so because we would have no other choice. People have become too complacent and reliant on the government to take care of their affairs. And most are afraid to speak up against corruption. That's no way to live.

I am 100% for no police, no laws.

The laws of nature are all I need. Nature is already balanced.

It might not be the perfect system, since none exists, but it would be right.

I never said BB guns are, or should be, classified as a deadly weapon.

But they are also not toys. Saying something is a toy just because children play with them is a bad argument. Kids have been playing with matches forever, too. Are they toys?

The manufacturers of BB guns agree that they are not toys. So do federal laws.

"2 NEWS Investigates found BB and Pellet guns like the one Crawford was carrying are not required to. The reason? It’s not considered a toy."

Furthermore:

"According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, BB guns are not fire arms…and the consumer product safety commission says they’re not toys."

If every parent that had a kid murdered by a cop put a bullet between the fuckers eyes it would end pretty fast. If a cop ever murders anyone I care about that is innocent of wrongdoing no matter what kind of weapon they have be it fake or real, I'm going to....well, I think you get the idea!

A fish rots from the head down, they wouldn't do it if the ones hiring them and putting them out on the streets didn't protect them..and want them to. The cops that are out on the streets these days are just making things more dangerous than if there were no cops, they're being trained to shoot people for doing things that are completely lawful and the scary thing about it they're stupid enough to think they were justified. I am convinced the ones hiring them and training them are trying to scare people out of carrying weapons, anyone with a gun be it legal or not can be shot dead and all that happens to the cop that did it in every case is a paid vacation. "He had a gun.. or at least it LOOKED like a gun, and my job is to go home.."

I played with toy guns and even real ones as a kid, and my own children have played with toy guns when they were kids...I'm sure my Dad did too, and I know for a fact that when he was about 12 he bought a .22 single shot rifle that he would take to the town dump and shoot rats, LOL My point is, none of us ever got shot by the cops...so why is that? Maybe it's because we never aimed a gun at them?

Yes, it was a toy, it was an airsoft gun and any child can go into a store and buy as many as he wants to his hearts content. The obvious question to me is why do police think they have the right to kill someone because they think they have a gun? AN dhow brainwashed are the people to believe it?

Guns aren't illegal to carry. If he'd pointed it at them or threatened them, then they have a case for self defense, but he didn't. That makes it second degree murder, the intentional taking of a human life WITHOUT JUSTIFICATION and not in self defense.
