And do not call me at 7:00 a.m. on weekends or any other time, SCAMMERS.
This weekend in the morning I received a call on my cell phone, which I keep close by in the night for possible emergencies.

The man said this is so and so from Microsoft - how are you today. He had a very strong sounding and pounding voice. The accent was a mix of mid eastern/African, etc. WTH?

I'm in the middle of a rem cycle and not a happy camper about this call. I said DO NOT CALL ME AT 7:00 IN THE MORNING - EVER. Not only was his voice loud and controlling and annoying, but calls at those times seem to alarm me.

Don't know what the call was for, but I have a feeling that it was a scammer. I did not call Microsoft and I do not have any tech problems here.

Good grief, what a terrible time to call anyone, weekend or not, but esp. weekends.

Has anyone else ever had a call like this? And, if so, what can you tell me.

Thank you.

It's a popular scam going around.
That’s the thing about progress; all the word means is “continued movement in the same direction.” If the direction was a bad idea to start with, or if it’s passed the point at which it still made sense, continuing to trudge blindly onward into the gathering dark may not be the best idea in the world. Break out of that mental straitjacket, and the range of possible futures broadens out immeasurably.

I get those calls almost daily. Always a middle eastern accent, always with the name of "sam" or "sue", or some other obviously not middle eastern name. Always saying that they have record of some kind of issue on my computer. They just want people to give them their info. It's annoying.

Thanks.

My first one like that. His voice was overbearing and creepy. Heh. He didn't know who he called with that controlling voice.

I'm surprised I was as calm as I was when I told him never to call her at 7:00 a.m. I keep late hours and usually answer the phone if it's a family member.

Do you know what they want from you or do you hang up on them?

Wow. That scam has been going around here for at least a year. I don't normally answer unfamiliar numbers, but sometimes I will...if I feel like playing. This man also claimed he was from Microsoft. I told him I didn't have a computer. He said something like, "Who doesn't have a computer?!" I said, "Me, I don't have one. So I don't know how my computer could be spreading viruses when I don't even have one." Then, he said I was lying, and he started cursing at me. :)

Yes, it is a common scam as of late. They call and say that your computer is compromised. You need to give them money and personal information and they will fix your computer.

If you don't give them money, bad things will happen to you and your computer.

Apparently it works on little old people... the folks who are in their 70's and older who have computers.

Tell them to stop calling.

I totally understand, I am frequently on call 24/7 in the event of an emergency at work, so I pick up the phone many times without looking to see what the caller ID says.

Remember the Do Not Call List? Gee, that has really served us well! LOL

I am wondering if the do not call list simply provides a reference guide of numbers for telemarketers.

The wrinkle in all of this is the calling centers for these are located outside of the US. I suspect, they are not bound by the US regulations to not call.

Later, after I woke up around 10 or so, I looked at my phone and it said "Unknown". Had I been awake and during the day, I would not have bothered with it. And, where do these leeches get our cell phone numbers, or I should say, who gives these leeches the 'phone list'?
