The sun emits ultraviolet (UV) rays, large doses of which are hazardous to humans, ani-mals and plants. Increased UV radiation may cause disturbances in the immune system, cataracts and cancer in humans. It also has damaging effects on fish and amphibians, and may disturb the photosynthesis of plants, both in the sea and on land. The sun and blocks of sea ice The sun and blocks of sea ice. But as stratospheric ozone decreases, UV radiation is allowed to pass through, and exposure at the Earth's surface increases. Shorter ultraviolet wavelengths of light contain more energy than the infrared or visible portions of sunlight that reach Earth's surface. Because of this, UV photons can break atmospheric chemical bonds and cause complex health effects. |

Many threads on here I can't remember anytime in my life when the sun did not seem too bright. One of my earliest memories is being carried outside, I could see toys and stuff on the ground, but that big bright hot thing way up there, scared me and hurt me. I grabbed on for dear life and cried my eyes out until she gave up and took me back in the house. I have always preferred to be in the shade, not that it stopped me from being a lifeguard at a lake, or from surfing or anything outside. I was just always the one wishing it was time to go inside or that it would get cloudy. Now days I tell everyone I am a child of the forest and do my best to stay in the shade as much as possible. The so-called coronal hole over the sun’s north pole came into view between July 13 and 18 and was observed by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO. NASA released a video of the sun hole as seen by the SOHO spacecraft, showing the region as a vast dark spot surrounded by solar activity. |
