The side-effects of Ibuprofen can be minimized or mitigated. The side-effects of death? Not so much. The fact that it's effect is seen cross such a wide variety of species implies the possibility it will effect us in similar fashion. There is no mention in the study of heroic measures being taken to keep test subjects suffering from side effects of ibuprofen alive longer than other other test subjects, although it did mention that test subjects given ibuprofen lived healthier lives in addition to longer lives. So all-in-all, it's at least worth following the research on this. One method of action likely contributing to the effect is reduced inflammation. You can get started on deriving those benefits now by taking turmeric regularly. Just remember to mix 1 part black pepper to 2parts turmeric. Without the black pepper, the Curcumin isn't readily bioavailable. aHEMagain "And once again, Probability proves itself willing to sneak into a back alley and service Drama as would a copper piece harlot." -- Vaarsuvius, The Order of the Stick [link to tvtropes.org] "History doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme" -- Mark Twain "It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.-- William Clifford [link to myweb.lmu.edu] |

Ibuprofen. A recent study found that regular small doses of the pill extended the lives of animal subjects by up to 15 percent. Not only did the animals live longer, but they also lived healthier, and scientists believe the same effect could be seen in humans. In the study, scientists gave a number of species doses of ibuprofen that would be comparable to the recommended human dose. They first began their tests on baker’s yeast, but then moved on to worms and flies. Results showed that over time this extended the test subjects’ lives by 15 percent, which when translated into human life is about an extra dozen years of life. "We are not sure why this works, but it's worth exploring further," explained Dr. Michael Polymenis, one of the collaborating researchers who had taken part on the study, in a press release. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60550070 Nah,not so much, your thinking Tylenol. Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS rarely affect the liver. Unlike acetaminophen (Tylenol) most NSAIDs are absorbed completely and have negligible first-pass hepatic (liver) metabolism. In other words, the way NSAIDS are metabolized makes liver toxicity (hepatotoxicity) very rare. Estimates are that 1 in 100,000 NSAID prescriptions result in acute liver injury. Generally NSAIDs are very liver-safe Your kidneys are more affected though. |

Maybe they have observed that science is a series of observations recorded in what are termed "studies", all of which have a particular bias or interpretation based on the personal history of the observer. This is one, single, solitary study. Hardly definitive. Likely to be contradicted or corroborated in later studies, but isn't it somewhat foolish to jump onboard at this stage? To be sure, there are a lot of studies being done on ibuprofen, but to call them definitive or "fact" is still quite an overstatement. Check your enthusiasm as much as you expect those "shills" to check their nay-saying. |

When they decided eggs were bad, they were thinking that cholesterol in eggs was directly responsible for cholesterol in your blood. It turns out that your body makes all the cholesterol in the blood. Eggs are full of nutrients your body needs. Our grandparents ate eggs every day and lived into their 90s. I eat eggs every day, and have no cholesterol problems at all. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. "America is at that awkward stage.
