SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich is speaking out about a video posted to the ~~~~~~~~~ website that has one of his deputies saying the department's new military surplus Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle is needed for dealing with “Constitutionalists" among others who stockpile weapons and ammunition.

An edited segment of the video was published to ~~~~~ Sunday and has more than 2,600 comments, from people who are for the most part outraged by the comments. Knezovich claims the deputy's comments were taken out of context.

“There is no way this equipment will be used on any law-abiding citizen,” he said. “It will never be used to take your guns away."

Knezovich said the recording happened at the Holiday and Heroes event two weeks ago. At the event, deputies went shopping with underprivileged children, while others stood outside with the MRAP and talked with families coming by. One person decided to record her interaction with the deputy.

“Her opening statement to the deputy was 'This is all propaganda.' We were just there to desensitize the children to the equipment, to the MRAP,” Knezovich said.

The deputy was identified by Knezovich as Jerry Moffett, a 20-year law enforcement veteran who also served in the Army. He said he hasn't talked with Moffett since the day the recording happened, but knows that it was a much longer conversation than the seconds that appear on ~~~~~~~.
