Scottish government confirms a case of Ebola in a patient at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow / 2nd person now being tested

The Scottish government confirmed the case being investigated was at Glasgow's Gartnavel Hospital.

A spokesman said a healthcare worker who returned from Sierra Leone last night had been diagnosed with Ebola and was receiving treatment.

The patient was admitted to hospital early this morning after feeling unwell and was placed into isolation at 7.50am.

Anyone who is at risk through contact with the patient is to be contacted and closely monitored.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has chaired a meeting of the Scottish Government Resilience Committee (SGoRR) to ensure all necessary steps are being taken, and has also spoken to Prime Minister David Cameron.

According to UK and Scottish protocol for anyone diagnosed with Ebola, the patient will be transferred to the high level isolation unit in the Royal Free hospital, London, as soon as possible. This is where the facilities, staff and systems are in place to ensure the best quality and safest care.

A relative who is in the British Army is due back from Sierra Leonne on 2nd January and is to undergo 24 hours quarantine

I think it's fair to say that she deliberately travelled back to the uk for treatment. She must have been pretty certain/symptomatic to have arrived in London last night and then ended up in isolation in Glasgow before 8 this morning.
