Re: Birthmarks?
Okay, so upon further inspection, I DO have something that resembles a birthmark...even though I called my mom and asked if I had a birthmark at birth, she said no. Plus, my Aunt, her sister, said she never remembered me having one either. My Aunt did mention a lot of her brothers and sisters, and even her mom (my maternal grandmother) didnt have birthmarks. So maybe it is genetic...?

What I have is a slight red (out of 1-10 with 10 being bright red, mine is a 1) small *mark* under my hairline, at the back of my neck...? Which my mother says was not there at birth, or growing up as a small child...?

Now I'm even more confused...lol...

Thank you guys and gals for trying to help me get to the bottom of this...

It's genetic. My wife and daughter have a birthmark with the same shape and location.

Re: Birthmarks?
IMO, moles and birthmarks are completely different.

A mole is excessive pigment and keratinisation, genetically produced sometimes, sometimes not.
A mole is a 'safe' cancer - and is the reason why we're told to keep an eye on them if they change as they could easily turn into a not so safe skin cancer.

Birth marks are flat random shapes on the body that are generally a darker tone than the natural skin colour.
They never change, and are rarely raised above the skin (except 'strawberry' birth marks).

I don't know the meaning - i've always wondered. I also read it was about past lives...it's intriguing as where i have mine, if they were wounds then they would be severing major arteries causing death.
My boyfriend and i both have 1 at the nape of our necks and mid lower back.
I have a massive one on my inner thigh that's the exact shape of Ireland - where i eventually moved to!

Perhaps they are portents of what is to come rather than signs of past death?

Hmmm...

I have a theory on the slight red 'marks' on the nape of the neck...as I have one too...I'm not sure if it is a birthmark or not though as my mom says I didn't have one as a child...but now I do? I just don't know...lol...but thanks for sharing with me, made me smile :)

Very interesting idea in your last paragraph!

This!!! a mole is not a birthmark...

I have both..
My Aunti (dad's side) has the same moles and fairly close locations as I do, my uncle(dad's side) also has them but on the opposite side and he is a lefty, we are righties..

But, I have birthmarks and they do not! There is one on my leg looks like Orion with a brown background and there is a mole (this my Aunt and uncle do not have this mole)just outside of it, that is 3 different colors..

I am not sure what I believe as to why some have birthmarks and others do not.. My 3 kids and I share a similar birthmark, but in different places.. an Triangle about 4 inches long and 3 inches wide, they show up in the Summer months after exposure to the Sun.

Maybe they are a Cosmic type of branding-LOL

Re: Birthmarks?
Interesting ideas on this thread....
It caused me to start googling and I came across this tidbit.

"The number of moles a person has was found to have a correlation with telomere length.[8] The length of telomeres may be of significance in the ageing process. But the relation between telomeres and aging remains uncertain.[9]"

From here, under 'signs and symptoms'
[link to en.m.wikipedia.org]

I'm not really sure how it relates to your original query about birthmarks.
I'm not sure that moles technically qualify as birthmarks.
But I thought it was interesting and so I'm sharing....
 Quoting: RefreshPage

Yeah, I read that yesterday (thanks for linking :) when I was thinking about it...IMO, it seems random at this point...

Anyone who watched Cloud Atlas will know the birthmarks played a significant role...reincarnation type stuff...

Better you than me :) as I practically live in flip flops...

And the real question here is, can your daughter swim better than you? Would something like that be considered an asset?

Re: Birthmarks?
I've scoured the net looking for the significance of birthmarks...but I really didn't see anything that dinged my ~TRUTH~ bell...

Some folks believe birthmarks are a sign of karmic debt. Others believe it can be a mark of death from your last life.

I'm not sure I believe any of those things but I would like to hear GLPers thoughts and musings on the matter.

I will just add, I DO NOT have a birthmark, neither does my son.

Anyone else with no birthmark?

Anyone want to share their esoteric knowledge of birthmarks?

TIA ;)

I have a heart below my eyebrow, left eye, it fades in the summer when I tan. Idk about it being a mark where we died before. Melanin creates strawberry marks, so its a concentration of melanin in a certain area.
