Inevitably, your polar vortex displacement is causing the UK to be battered - so far it's only the north of Britain that's been severely hit (although the whistling through my house last night as well), but there are bound to be more depressions if it carries on.

Just a heads-up to UK weather-watchers, really: keep your eyes on the severe cold in the US, and you'll have advance warning of most of the winter storms in the UK.

Stay warm and upright, folks, whichever side of the pond you are!

Gusts recorded at 113 mph (110 mph on the mainland), and currently 79000 homes without power. 130 schools closed too.

Is that NW Scotland or NW England? If the former, you may be lucky!

Sounds like you'll be getting it tonight, then... although the worst of it should be quite brief, apparently. Hope it's not too bad.
