Re: Wyoming. Can residents help me?
Most people in Idaho live in or around the treasure valley, that's where all the work is. Sometimes that sucks here is SW Idaho but, we have a little land and enjoy living here and playing in the rest of the state when we can.

Yellowstone is about a 5-6hr drive, been there many times. I don't plan on staying here in the winter once I retire, I'll be a snowbird. I'm tired of winter, we finally got to see the sun for the first time in weeks yesterday. And in the summer we get like 3 months of nothing but sunshine, little to no rain.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66752013

According to pole shift information, if it is true, we here in the Treasure Valley will end up where Florida and Cuba, are now. We are on a rocky chunk of earth and will be in a good position to survive. So no more bad winters. (Save your orange and lemon seeds).

We shall still be a chunk of dirt away from the actual ocean just as we are now...heading in the Portland direction. It is a nice thing to think about. It may all be a pipe dream but the destroyer will soon be too close to deny and something is going to happen.

At any rate...your heading in the right direction. We have clean water, good growing soil, a lot fewer people, firewood, and a country boy can survive.

People say the city dwellers will go to the areas out here and kill us all. But they will be caught in a web of crushed cities, no roads, no vehicles, no food or supplies and no strength or ability to walk out over hundreds of miles. They will be killing each other. Whole families will perish as they try to save each other.

So, get out now while you still can. Head for the hills. Leave the coasts and do build under a hill that can break up in an EQ and fall on you.

Near yellowstone could be Idaho Falls/Jackson hole/Cody, just be ready for long winters, especially if you're on the eastern slope.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66752013

As I understand, a hell of a lot of winter and very little humidity. I'm used to a hell of a lot of southern humidity!

When you get there drink 2-3 times the normal amount of fluid.
If in the mountains expect to get a nose bleed about week 2-3 as your sinus tissue changes out. it's kind of like a period but in your nose.

The peeps here(teton cty) are all from somewhere else... Wilson on the west bank of the snake is full of rich libtards jackson is more middle of the road and star valley is way conservative.
The economy in jackson is robust... It supports most of east idaho and star valley ... Bring your own woman as the dudes outnumber chicks 5-1!

How do you get adjusted to the humidity levels? I'm used to such high humidity, will be weird to have lower humidity.

I guess I should have named this thread Southerners that move west lol

On the upside, its a safe place to raise kids... Very family friendly. To my east after a 1mile walk from my door is the mountains all public land free to use... I can walk 60 MILES in 1 direction before i cross a single road.... Its wild free and awesome

Good advice re: fluid intake at high altitudes.
Mormons? Ooooh! Scary! Really they're mostly nice people, if a little off in their religious beliefs. I've heard they'll try to screw non-mormons in business deals but no experience there. Good preppers, though.
I'll bet my life that Yellowstone is NOT going to blow up today, or tomorrow. FFS people! Pull your head outta your ass and get an education from something besides the boob tube.

Some people believe that a strong Mormon population is a plus.

A group of people who take care of their own, save money, have a rational approach to food production-preparation-storage so they won't come to take yours in an emergency, still teach their children traditional values, build productive and prosperous communities because of their work ethic... isn't that what people here want to go back to, anyway?

Since you obviously did not grow up in the area and thus with Mormons, your ill-conceived prejudice sticks out a mile. No wonder they wanted nothing to do with you.

The media smear job on Mormons got us Obama.

Why don't you rethink this whole Mormon thing?

With the economy in such a state, I would say that anyplace an honest man can still make a living is more than "okay"

In this day of the internet. I would say spend some times researching. I don't mean just Wiki stuff. But look into what what news media is in the region and news papers. Looked up stuff there. Then go ahead a take a day or two and actually call some local businesses. You can get an idea how people are in the region just buy how they talk to you on the phone.

The biggest problem I have with ID is the sales tax rate + state income tax. Very regressive in my opinion > discouraging for people who have to work.
MT has neither, as far as I know, I guess the state gets its revenue from mineral royalties?
WY does get a lot of its revenue from mineral royalties, sales tax rate is about 5%, no state income taxes. WY always runs a budget surplus, very fiscally responsible but infrastructure is sketchy (outside of major cities).

wyoming is sparsley populated no real big cities. has plenty of tornadoes and extreme winters the oil industry is picking up so the state is and will be poluted as time passes. montana has extreme winters. you have to be careful where you live some cities have more drug problems then you would expect. employment is plentiful and if you can handle a small community its the better of the choices, there is plenty of hospitality but everybody knows everybody. good hunting and fishing. Idaho would probably be your best place people are not as into your personal life there are good hard working people and their education is real good. its a zero drug policy state so if you are into illegal drugs dont go their. I drove through idaho last summer comming from vegas stopped in idaho falls for the night, read the local topics board and read a story about a young man who had been driving through the state 5 years prior got pulled over had a few joints on him was arrested served 2 years in jail with a 5 year probabtion so he was stuck in their system.

Make no mistake about it Montana has a drug culture similar to say Alaska. IMO Idaho and Wyoming are WAY better off. Poor Wyoming has to deal with Colorado as a neighbor but still Wyoming ROCKS.

As it stands now in Montana, you can grow and smoke pot all you want but the minute you try to sell the stuff to someone else you have broken the law.

That is how it landed with the legislatures in Helena.

Between that law and the Feds crack down we "technically" do not have Medical Marijuana store fronts or grow houses.

Really neither here nor there the politics in Wyoming is by far the best. Why? Because people still know each other. You do not have to be a high powered lawyer to have REAL influence in politics. Its the OLD American way.

Happy Adventure to you OP get some silk long underwear and be happy.
