Cool things need a repost!
"The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title."

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Amazing to me, they can shoot a rover the size of a gokart to Mars, then 10-15 years later, send another and 'happen' to find the first one. Imagine putting two remote controlled atv's on earth and trying to happen across the other one... a trillion, no a zillion to one chance?

"The images taken from 185 miles above Mars in 2013 and again last year show that the small lander touched down successfully close to its intended landing site."

A satellite found it, not another rover, but what the u.s needs to do is send one of our rovers to it (from satellite tracking) and try to deploy its panels so the u.k can use it.

Actually it is no doubt named for the ship that carried the Darwin research expedition - H.M.S Beagle.

OK, Carnac the grumpy ass will chime in on this one.

How much money did the Brits, and perhaps NASA, expend to look for this object?

First, don't f... it up to begin with and you won't have to spend 12 years looking for it.

Second, when you do f... it up, don't expect the taxpayer to be on the hook to spend a dime trying to prove that your engineering was not the problem - when it is clear you knew it could have been.

I include these two paragraphs from Professor Mark Sims, who worked on this project 12 years ago:

He said that damage to the craft could have been caused by a number of issues ranging from damage from a heavy landing or the airbag not rolling away and becoming stuck in the mechanism.

He added: "Personally I think it is a bad luck scenario, I don't think anything was wrong with the engineering, we we(sic) just unlucky on the day

So, Professor... a hard landing is not due to bad engineering? An airbag designed so that it MIGHT not roll away, is not due to bad engineering?

Not bad luck... no.. SHIT HAPPENS. Your government and mine, should not be throwing good money, after bad.
Have a nice day = GFY. GFY = Go Fuck Yourself. If this offends you then have a nice day.

Great news! So the UK is the third nation with at least a succesful landing sequence on Mars.

Now let's see what have been found in 2004 already:

I'm going to guess that British wiring was it's downfall. Just anyone that has owned a British car about the wiring.

OK, Carnac the grumpy ass will chime in on this one.

 Quoting: Carnac The Magnificent

Very, very little. The amount spent o space research is trivial compared to, lets see, defence spending, or consumer spending on pet food, or even on cosmetics.

And the return on investment is huge. The money doesn't go off into space you know, it's spent in research and development here on earth, and you're almost certainly using a lot of spin-offs from that research every day...

First, don't f... it up to begin with and you won't have to spend 12 years looking for it.
 Quoting: Carnac The Magnificent

This from someone from the US, who have had more fuck-ups in space than any other nation!?!?

Let's not mention the wonderful episodes known as Mars Climate Orbiter and Mars Polar Lander. Those were real fuck-ups, not failures of equipment which was the likely cause of Beagle 2's problems.

Second, when you do f... it up, don't expect the taxpayer to be on the hook to spend a dime trying to prove that your engineering was not the problem - when it is clear you knew it could have been.
 Quoting: Carnac The Magnificent

The images were taken by Mars Reconnaisance Orbiter, as part of its continuing mission mapping the surface of the planet. Very little additional effort has been expended in finding Beagle 2 in the images, and in fact if a bit more time had been devoted to image analysis it would have been found ages ago.

 Quoting: Carnac The Magnificent

See above re engineering failures and national statistics for them.

And as I said, it's a very small amount of effort to come up with some useful facts about the mission. Design and planning of future missions can make use of the information, and overall it should help improve success in the long run.

Taking your approach to its logical conclusion, if an aircraft crashes we should just write it off as "bad engineering or something" and never bother finding out the real cause, even if it could save lives in the future...

I like how blurry the photos are.

I'll bet that Bitch landed successfully and the mission went "Secret" for some reason.

They probably found Aliens, and were talking to them on the Obama Phone till the batteries finally went dead.
