[ link to www.examiner.com] On Monday, NASA released its best images yet of the dwarf planet Ceres that orbits in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The images show evidence of a lake on its surface. Scientists are speculating that Ceres may host life, according to World Tech Today. NASA will be releasing higher quality images of Ceres as its Dawn spacecraft closes in for a March 6 rendezvous when it commences a 16-month study. "We know so much about the solar system and yet so little about dwarf planet Ceres. Now, Dawn is ready to change that," said Marc Rayman, chief engineer and director of the Dawn mission. Ceres is 600 miles in diameter and is covered by rock and ice. Its land surface is almost 40 percent the size of the continental USA. Too cold to read about other cold planets, not interested! Get back to us when they find a planet with hot sunny beaches, sexy totti in bikinis, champers, olive trees & weed plants growing everywhere. I suppose Ceres would be awfully nice for winter ski tourists though. |
