EASY BUSINESS IDEAS BY AC 48635107.
These are not my ideas. They were posted on another thread about how hard it is to find a job. These are business ideas that are simple and (on paper) seem like they would work. Here is what AC 48635107 had to say in the other thread (in bold). Take from it what you will. I think I will try the pressure washing business.

Finding a job can be rough but it's better to have a shit job than none at all. Anything to put a little money in your pocket.

If you are interested, I'll tell you step by step how to get back on your feet within a year. It takes some work and you can't deviatefrom the plan but it'llbefun and worth it. In a year you'll have control over your own income and within two years you'll have your own legit business. I'm not talking about getting rich here (though it's possible with some imagination). Within three years you could (if you want) SELL the business for a nice amount of money, start another business and repeat. My dad became a millionaire doing this.

-Next post-

OP, I don't usually giveout unsolicited advice but I don't have time to wait on a reply from you (I've got placesto go this evening) so here's a plan thatwill almost definitelywork. I've seen it work several times.

Just do the following in the order that they appear.

1. Get a cashier job at a convenience store. Work as many hours as you can. Live meagerly and save $100 out of each paycheck.

2. Once you have $1200 saved up, look in every "trader's guide" or whatever similar publication in your area for a running CHURCH VAN. These arethe big long "maxi" vanswith lots of seats and windows. They are usually maintained well by churches. Testdrive one and get it for $1000 or less.

3. Take out all the seats except the driver and front passenger seats(givethem awayor throw them overa hill somewhere) and spray paint the side windows black (on the inside so that it just looks like they are limo tinted). Leave the back window clear so that you can see when backing up.

*NOTE* See what you just did? You just made a cargo van. So why not just BUY a cargo van? Well, they cost 2-3 times what a passenger van costs because they are used to MAKE MONEY. Well guess what--you now have a business vehicle AND a makeshift camper to sleep in. Make sure you get your van LEGAL. Insurance isn't cheap but take that extra $200 you saved and prepay a couple months of insurance (get Progressive online which comes with discounts and make sure you tell them that your van is a "recreational vehicle" for the lowest rate. In the end, you'll pay about $85/month or less).

4. Keep working your crumby job and saving $100 out of each paycheck. You should be accustomed to that by now. Since you're paying insurance now, maybe you can only save $50 out of each paycheck. That's fine.

5. In the meantime, place free ads on Craigslist and in your local "trader's guide" for HAUL-AWAY service. Make the ad say "Take your basement, attic or garage BACK! I can haul away most jobs for $20". When you get calls(and you will), set up a time where you go look at the job. Remember that you said in your ad that you "can" haul away most jobs for $20, not that you "will" do it. But you're not hauling away stuff for the money. Nope. You're doing it for the STUFF.

6. You're going to get a lot of junk. Much of it can be scrapped. Anything metal can be scrapped. Brass, copper, steel, aluminum, stainless, etc. Trust me you will get all of the above. But what you're looking for are things that you can sell AS-IS. Go through all the junk you get meticulously. Look for jewelry (and learn how to identify gold, silver and platinum) and seperate it out. Hang on to it while you keep an eye on gold/silver/platinum spot prices, waiting to sell it at the best time. Look for old Polaroid cameras (the ones that fold flat). Look for old video games and systems. And best of all, save all the furniture that is usable (even if it's in rough shape).

7. Time to go to the flea market. Sellitallcheap. Look up what any specialty items (cameras, video games and systems, electronics, sewing machines, etc) are SELLING FOR on eBay ANDCUT THAT PRICEIN HALF. furniture is always a big seller as long as it is cheap and doesn't smell bad. A little Febreeze goes a long way, my friend. Make your goal at the flea market to sell EVERYTHING you brought with you. Remember, you didn't pay shit for it (but you DID work for it so don't GIVE it away).

*NOTE* Okay. For a couple days hard work, you now have a nice lump of cash in your pocket. Good work. But you're just getting started. Yeah, you could stop here and just repeat but you'll still be poor.

8. Take 1/3 of the money you made at the flea market and pay your insurance ahead and fill up your gas tank. These are business expenses. They are a MUST.

9. Take the other 2/3 and use it to:

a. buy some cheap folding tables. You'llwant at least 5.

b. buy an "easy up" (Just look it up. Get the cheapest you can find).

c. buy inventory on eBay.

10. The inventory that you are looking for on eBay is jewelry. Cheap Chinese jewelry. Seach forthefollowing: "stainless steel ring lot" and you will find a lot of items. Also: "fashion jewelry lot". Only buy from sellers in China (I realize that this is usually BAD advice but not in this case). Look for the best deals. Remember that you'll be selling all this jewelry for "$2 A PIECE OR 3 FOR $5". Try to, at least, QUADRUPLE your money on each item. So keep that in mind as you're making your purchases on eBay. You'll get your packagesfrom Chinain abouta month.

11. Whileyou'rewaiting on your packages, keep hauling away, scrapping and selling at flea markets.

12. When you get your new inventory from China, sell it along side your junk but make sure your presentation is good. Make it look likea Chinatown vendor in Manhattan--all your jewelry laid out in an organized way(necklaces, rings, pins, braceletsallin their own area) but stillcrowdedtogether. You don't want an empty space on your tables. Make simple signs that say "$2 a piece or 3 for $5" and really PUSH that $5 deal. Take note of which items sell well and which ones don't.

*NOTE* The junk business is good but inconsistent. You never know what you'll get from week to week. The strategyof selling cheap jewelryisto giveyou SOMETHING STABLE. Keep your prices LOW. Remember--you will have COMPETITION.

13. Get your business license. It only costs a few dollars (mine only cost exactly $1) no matter what county you livein. Registeryour business as a "sole proprietorship". Your Federal Tax ID will be your Social Security #. Your business will be called "YOUR NAME" doing business as ("DBA") "SNAPPYBUSINESS NAME". Example: John Smith DBA Urban Style Factory. Get some vinyl signs made with your snappy business name on them.

14. Increase your inventory of jewelry. Buy more tables and another easy-up.

15. Travel to every fair and festival that you can. Raise your prices slightly. Look into finding stuffed animals and toys to sell (new and/or used) along side your jewelry.

16. Keep track of your expenses and earnings (IN WRITING)BECAUSEYOU WILL HAVETO PAYTAXES AND YOU WANT A RECORDOF YOUR PROGRESS FOR WHEN YOU SELL THIS BUSINESS.

17. Sell the business. Start another EVEN MORE SOPHISTICATEDONE. By this time, you will have learned A LOT about business in general and should have the experience to take calculated risks about your next move.

18. You owe me $100,000 for this advice.

I kid. Good luck!

One thing that I forgot to mention that is really important is this:

When you're doing haul-aways for people, only promise that you'll clear the room and sweep the floor. Anything the customer wants to keep MUST be removed before you arrive to do the job. Also, the money that the customer pays you is NOT FOR YOU. It's to pay for gas and to pay the homeless guy that you got to help you carry all that heavy shit to your van. Furniture is heavy. You can't move it all by yourself. You can always find a homeless guy who will take $10 or $15 cash for a couple hours work.

Also, try to find a dolly(hand truck) for cheap if you can to save your back.

Since I've got a bit more time, I'll tell you about some other tried and true business opportunities. Remeber that these ALL REQUIRE A VAN.

BUSINESS #1:

1. Get a van,a power-washer(geta good used onefor about $75), a couple good extendable squeegees (you'll find them at AutoZone), a soft-bristled push broom, a coarse-bristled push broom,a tallextendableladder, several jugs of automotive window washer (the blue shit), some big jugs of Dawn dishwash detergent (it's the best for this job) and two extra-long hoses (the longest you can find).

2. Go to fancyhousing developments (the type with big executive-style houses where doctors and lawyers live) during the daytime (so that the wife is home and the husband's at work) and offer to power wash the siding/bricks/stone of their house and wash the outside of their windows for cheap. Make an estimate based on the square footage of surface you will clean and the number of windows. Also throw in a "special" like "today only, I'll clear out your gutters too for no additional cost".

*NOTE* if you can get JUST ONE PERSON in the neighborhood to agree, then use that as your advantage. "Keeping up with the Joneses" is your best weapon. You'll see.

3. Keep a notebook of all your jobs and re-visit all your customers once per season.

-Next Post-

BUSINESS #2:

1. Get a van,two vacuum cleaners, two buckets, two mops, two brooms, lots of cleaning agents, a 5 gal bucket of drywall "mud", some scrapers, some sandpaper, paintbrushes and paint (but hold off on the paint for now).

2. Put ads on Craigslist, in your local newspapers and in your local "trader's guides" that say:

"LANDLORDS: Every day with an empty unit costs you money! We will prep any apartment, rental house or condo for rental. We will clean the messes and haul away any junk! LOW PRICES, QUICK SERVICE!!!" or something similar.

3. Get a homeless guy to work for you for cheap. Pay him by the job, not by the hour.

4. When you arrive at a job, give an estimate based on:

a. How much you have to clean.
b. Is there unwanted furniture/junk to haul away (chargethelandlord more for this even though the "junk" is a sellable BONUS for you)?
c. Do you have to fillholes/cracksin the drywall?
d. Does the landlord want the place painted? If so, what colors and will YOU have to supply the paint or will the landlord?
e. Are there pest problems (like fleasin the carpet)?

5. On your first job for a particular landlord, GO ABOVE AND BEYOND. Spray the carpet with febreeze. Use furniture polish on all surfaces. This way, he will call YOU when he has another unit that needs prepped.

OP, I actually operated this business for 3 years in Tampa before selling it. This one is a winner without a doubt.

I just wanted to say again that I didn't originally write that so I can't answer any questions about it. Maybe AC 48635107 will come to this thread, maybe not.

I'm the person who originally posted these "ideas" on the other thread. My AC # is different because I'm away from home.

I did not give the OP permission to post this stuff but it's a public forum so screw it, I guess.

The title of this thread is NOT accurate. There is no such thing as "easy" when it comes to business. You have to work hard and keep your goals in mind at all times. You have to be smart and always reinvest into your business if you want it to last. You also have to evolve your business and go where the money is.

The examples that I posted in the other thread are tried and true but generally only work in an environment that has year-round temperate weather like Florida or Southern California. Otherwise, you will have to adapt and find ways to make money in the off-season. And there are always ways to make money.

They're cargo/work vans in waiting. Why spend twice the money on a cargo van? Dump all the back seats, black out the side windows, maybe attach some 2X4s along the inside sides of the van to protect the glass and use for tying down cargo. Easy and cheap.

If you've got a van and some gas, then you've got the start of a business.

Turning a van into a cargo van and cleaning basements and selling the stuff would probably alone be more profitable than the whole jewellery idea

My old man started out with a van and some homeless guys for help. He had a piano/organ moving business.

You know where most of the customers wanted their instruments moved to? ANYWHERE ELSE. Yeah. They just wanted rid of them.

So mad dad got paid to take away functioning instruments that he could simply tune and sell through newspaper ads. On top of that, he would get paid not only to haul them away but also to deliver them to the new owner.

You can't charge people much for haul-aways. Some people do it for free. That's what I call stiff competition.

Also, you never know what you're going to get. You might get sellable items and you might get boxes of shitty Xmas decorations from the 70s.

You need a "bread and butter" money maker. The Chinese jewelry was just an example (one that I've personally user--and still do from time to time).

When I sell at festivals and fairs, I sell jewelry, hats, tshirts, knives, knuckle dusters, bowls and bongs, posters, etc. What sells the best? It's still the jewelry. No shit.

If you can find them cheap, invest in clear acrylic charms with real scorpions, Beatles and spiders "frozen" inside. They sell like crazy. They're one thing that is a "fast mover" and doesn't seem to go out of style for the kiddies.

Flea markets cost from 5 to 15 dollars a space for the day. Very cheap. Hell, use 2 spaces!

Fairs and festivals charge more and require you to have a business license and to sign up in advance.

Notice that my advice said to save the fairs and festivals until after you're making some good money at flea markets.

Also, if you think that you're going to make money by just staying in one town, then you've got the wrong idea altogether. You've got a van, man. You've got to research what fairs are going on in your tri-state area and plan ahead.

Big festivals can cost up to $500 (or more) per day for vendors. But the foot traffic and the huge hoard of kids with money in their pockets make it worth it.

You have to plan for expenses like that.

Late Summer/early Fall is festival season. Make the most of it and you won't have to work so hard for the rest of the year. Find out where the highest per capita income is within your travelling range and make those your highest priority.

College campuses always have their own little festivals at the beginning of the fall semester and another one at the beginning of the spring semester or Homecoming.

You have to go where the money is and keep looking for opportunities. If you think that you can just stay in one location and do well, then you are way off. You will be on the road a lot.

Never get bogged down in one area. If you want to make money, then you have to be willing to go where the money is. Florida. California. New Jersey. NYC.

If you're willing to just stay in your hometown because that's where your "roots" are or that's where you feel safe and secure, then you have given up already.

Either you want to make it or you don't. There will always be more than enough excuses as to why you fail. But there's only ONE reason why you succeeded. It's because you NEVER quit. If an idea fails, learn from it and come up with something better.

Here's why people want cheap Chinese jewelry:

1. It's cheap.
2. It lasts longer than a pretzel but costs less at a fair.
3. It makes kids happy without costing the parents much.
4. You can sell it at "price points" that are easy to afford and easy for kids to understand. (like $2, $5 and $10--everything that you sell is either 2, 5 or 10 dollars=less confusion=faster sales, fewer arguments)
5. Some of it is really wacky and unusual (like rhinestone rings in the shape of peacocks or pendants with frogs made of jade, etc)

Not everything you initially choose will be a "fast mover". That's why you track your inventory. See what sells and what doesn't. Every item has a lifecycle. A few years in business will teach you that.
