Anonymous Coward User ID: 67387726 ![]() 01/26/2015 03:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They are right. It's the same old race between a weapon and an armour - in the end, the armour will always lose. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 62912220 The problem is, that while this was between Russia and the USA, tactics/approach/doctrine.. the bouncing between who had advantage was kinda equal thus a balance was created. However now we have various different missile defence systems appearing all of which use different tactics/approach/doctrine creates a whole new headache and what this p*ssing contest is actually about. It is less the US missile defence, it is more the myriad of other defences that have appeared, that Russia now has to overcome.. the balance that existed is long gone. Take Poland it has the various US missile defences, but on top of that it is building it's own missile shield, aptly named the Shield of Poland that is independent of the US one. There is the issue in a nutshell, it is not so much your weapons is attacking one type of armour as you put it, but rather has to overcome numerous different types all of which are evolving at different rates and in different directions to counter your weapon.. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 67387726 ![]() 01/26/2015 04:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if they fire 10,000 missiles, even if you stop 99% of them, the remaining missiles will probably ruin your whole day Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67021701 ![]() You think they have 10,000 advanced long range ballistic missiles ready to fire in a swarm attack on the world? Not sure what planet you are on, but I think you're probably it's cloud cookoo land. It comes back to the real issues facing Russia in that a defence in depth has been adopted, this has neutralised the existing balance of power and thrown the world into uproar. Never under estimate the damage that can do and the fights that can cause, how it emboldens those who want to expand their sphere of influence and how it enrages those on the other side.. This is world war kind of stuff... A similar dynamic can be seen in the run up to WW2.. their multi-engined bombers = our missiles, their fighter plane interceptors = our missile interceptors.. Thus in the early 30s you had the stale mate, my bombers could level you and send you back to the stone age and you bombers could do the same to me... neither of our interceptors could match the speed of the multi engined bombers thus MAD was assured. However the advancement of the fighter plan interceptors changed that dynamic, if one side had enough interceptors it could stop their opponents bomber fleet thus it opened the door to the next war having a winner, not just all losers. We have seen the same change in dynamics, the missile interceptors open the door to another war, to the potential of another winner, we have lost the balance we had.. If you want to go off on cloud cookoo land and think this a dig a Russia then be my guest, however it does not negate Russian concerns... nor does it close the door to another war... as like pandoras box it has been opened now.. |
