Because they always try to fix this backwards. They take more money from workers and give more of it to non-workers, which just makes life even more difficult for people like me and you who try to earn an honest living. Then not much of it stays in my pocket, there is always a holiday, or someone's birthday or special occasion or a home repair. In reality I have to work probably 20 hours of overtime per week before I make any money. Quoting: Judge Wimpy Basically, I'm lucky if I can buy a slice of pizza or a turkey sandwich for myself once or twice a week. Otherwise I don't have anything at all in my life that is a decision that I get to make. Is everyone's life like this, or am I particularly bad at life? Better not speak too loud about your ability to buy a slice of pizza or sandwich a couple times a week... if the Republicans hear you they will be sure to take your sandwich and give it to a CEO of an oil company. |

Sometimes it takes losing everything to learn this valuable lesson. Best education i ever got from a dose of reality. Anonymous Coward User ID: 64899572 ![]() 01/31/2015 03:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | think that's discouraging...look into tax freedom day. what is tax freedom day? Tax Freedom Day is the day when the nation as a whole has earned enough money to pay its total tax bill for year. A vivid, calendar-based illustration of the cost of government, Tax Freedom Day divides all federal, state, and local taxes by the nation’s income. In 2014, Americans will pay $3.0 trillion in federal taxes and $1.5 trillion in state taxes, for a total tax bill of $4.5 trillion, or 30.2 percent of income. This year (2014), Tax Freedom Day falls on April 21, or 111 days into the year. Working until April 21.....just to pay your "fair share" of taxes. 'Merica! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24957083 ![]() 01/31/2015 04:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I feel your pain. I love the company I work at but sometimes I just wonder if I will ever get a raise or if going "above and beyond" my work is just seen as charity. I hope it changes when busy season picks up, but during the crap weather we shut down for the day. Fuck being hourly, I'd rather have a set number every week, at least it's predictable. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31028832 At certain companies, you might get noticed and get promoted. But most companies, you're just doing charity work going above and beyond your duties. There's office politics that go on similar to what government bureaucrats do. Usually I fire people like that on the spot in my business and usually why I walk the floor myself to see what's going on. I have a lot of people that go past the limit working for me and I notice them and I pay them well for it. I also have incentives for it. I find a lot of good employees at other businesses getting paid minimum wage and the management/owners pushing them over the limit. These people think it will make their business function better or as good as mine, it won't. If a company isn't paying you a decent wage that you find acceptable, then they have no respect for you or your abilities. Just start looking for another place, as you will never get a raise. Also if you do more work than needed, they do notice it, except they will expect you to keep that up with no raise. |

It has brought me from a dark time and place in my life. I never get to see my family. It's hard on this end of the spectrum, I live in isolation no one to talk to, no fun just work. I did it for myself for 8 years but then 2008 happened and I was trying to expand too far and lost everything I had ever worked for. I had big money then. I got homeless, so don't think it could never happen to you. I never gave up, it only made me stronger and then life happened and slowed me from taking uncalculated risks going it on my own (for now). I am using the man against himself, I am letting him pay me to learn. So enjoy your family and life. Enjoy nature and take it in for all of its glory and wonder. Use your time to learn a new skill. If you can be on GLP then you can find ways to learn for free on the internet. You have to ask yourself,am I a punk, or will I keep fighting? I'm Down, Are You? |
