I'm in the Northeast. I have a groundhog who lives under my shed. Last year I noticed he/she came out in the spring.

About 3-4 weeks ago, December-January, I looked out my window, and he/she was out from under the shed, but just briefly.

60's and 70's all week here in Dallas last week. I wish winter could last year round here.

If the the groundhog sees his shadow, it's six weeks more of winter. If the groundhog doesn't see his shadow, it's six weeks until spring. If you really think hard about it, it's the same thing.

his statement isn't even correct. if the groundhog see's his shadow it's six more weeks of winter. if he doesn't see his shadow, spring will come early. That's it ...I don't know where you got six more weeks til spring, because that is the same thing as six more weeks of winter and none of it would make sense.

but that's the point. it's not about making sense... they just do it as tradition, nothing more than that.

I mean think about it, why do you even need a groundhog? on feb. 2nd open a window... is it sunny? then it's six more weeks of winter ...is it cloudy? then spring will come early. they just do it for a show...

not to mention whether it's sunny or not on exactly Feb. 2nd is basically a 50/50 chance either way ...and can no way correlate to how long winter is going to last.

I used to see it that way until I saw it differently.

6 weeks until spring means it's still winter but will be trending towards spring weather earlier.

6 weeks of winter means winter is going to be real winter until spring which might be cool longer.

Groundhogs are right more often than that moron is.
