Jacob learned that there was food available to all in Egypt
Genesis 42:1 Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75869676 Fearing they would die of starvation - Jacob's hope was renewed when he heard food was available in Egypt Genesis 42:2 And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die. 3 And Joseph's ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76765994 Memories of Joseph's untimely death must of haunted Jacob - because he wouldn't let Benjamin, the youngest, go with his brothers to Egypt. Genesis 42:4 But Benjamin, Joseph's brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76266221 The brothers went to Joseph for food, and behold another prophecy came true - they bowed before their brother: Genesis 42:6 And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76774916 After all, this is the dream - that prompted the kind of hatred that caused is brothers to sell him into slavery: Genesis 37:7...[Joseph said] your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. 8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us?
