Time to look at the LM shields

The micrometeorite shields are the very thin layer ( 100 to 200 microns ) of usually chromic acid anodised aluminium alloy that overlays the MLI thermal blankets. You can see the structural setup on page 8 of this document. [link to www.hq.nasa.gov (secure)]

This picture gives you some idea of how thin and flexible the shield were ( around 6 to 12 thicknesses of kitchen foil )

Those green/brown panels are chromic acid anodised and the black panels are black pyromark painted aluminium or inconel panels.
