End of Days is upon us!!! Failed end of days predictions throughout history
Funny how the End of Days is always a prophecy about the time the person reading it is alive.

"The End of Days is happening right now!!!!!!!!!" Said every person who though the bible was talking about their lifetime

Amazing how many times the end of days was thought to be happening.... but this time is different right... yeah that's what I thought you'd say.

here's a sample from this site:
[link to www.religioustolerance.org]

About 60 CE: Interpreting the Epistles of Paul of Tarsus literally, his writings seem to imply that Jesus would return and usher in a rapture during the lifetime of persons who were living in the middle of the 1st century.

About 90 CE: Saint Clement 1 predicted that the world end would occur at any moment.

2nd Century CE: Prophets and Prophetesses of the Montanist movement predicted that Jesus would return sometime during their lifetime and establish the New Jerusalem in the city of Pepuza in Asia Minor.

500 CE: This was the first year-with-a-nice-round-number-panic. The antipope Hippolytus and an earlier Christian academic Sextus Julius Africanus had predicted Armageddon at about this year.

968 CE: An eclipse was interpreted as a prelude to the end of the world by the army of the German emperor Otto III.

1000-JAN-1: Many Christians in Europe had predicted the end of the world on this date. As the date approached, Christian armies waged war against some of the Pagan countries in Northern Europe. The motivation was to convert them all to Christianity, by force if necessary, before Christ returned in the year 1000. Meanwhile, some Christians had given their possessions to the Church in anticipation of the end. Fortunately, the level of education was so low that many citizens were unaware of the year. They did not know enough to be afraid. Otherwise, the panic might have been far worse than it was. Unfortunately, when Jesus did not appear, the church did not return the gifts. Serious criticism of the Church followed. The Church reacted by exterminating some heretics. Agitation settled down quickly, as it later did in the year 2000.

1033: Some believed this to be the 1000th anniversary of the death and resurrection of Jesus. His second coming was anticipated. Jesus' actual date of execution is unknown, but is believed to be in the range of 27 to 33 CE.

It's funny, the early Jews and Christians were apocalyptic cultists, frequently issuing warnings of imminent Doom, and some of their failed predictions are literally taken as gospel thousands of years later!

pope2

Doom Fail reinterpreted by future generations over and over and over.....

ummmmm the list is showing the vast life experiences of 2000+ years of humanity

but it's funny you think that because someone points out the redundancy of failed end of days predictions you think that means the person is in their 20's

but you're right, this must be a post by a 20 something.... no 30 or 40 or 50 year old would post such obvious things like a factual listing of all the times throughout history people were totally wrong about the end of days.

Nice logic and retort to the truth "you must be 20!".. excellent argument

to add to OP's list (oh and for the record I'm 58, not a 20 something)

Look at the astrological signs and wars that were happening that people thought were signifiers for the end of days during their lifetimes. We have people saying blood moons and ww3 are the signs for our lifetime. Yet Even through the course of my own lifetime, end of days predictions have come and gone and come and gone numerous times over

1666
For the citizens of London, 1666 was not a banner year. A bubonic plague outbreak killed 100,000 and the Great Fire of London struck the same year. The world seemed at an end to most Londoners. The fact that the year ended with the Beast's number"666--didn't help matters.

1843-1844
William Miller was the founder of an end-times movement that was so prominent it received its own name, Millerism. >From his studies of the Bible, Miller determined that the second coming would happen sometime between 1843-1844. A spectacular meteor shower in 1833 gave the movement a good push forward. The build-up of anticipation continued until March 21, 1844, when Miller's one-year timetable ran out. Some followers set another date--Oct 22, 1844. This too failed, collapsing the movement. One follower described the days after the failed predictions: "The world made merry over the old Prophet's predicament. The taunts and jeers of the 'scoffers' were well-nigh unbearable."

1910
The revisit of Halley's comet was, for many, an indication of the Lord's second coming. The earth actually passed through the gaseous tail of the comet. One enterprising man sold comet pills to people for protection against the effects of the toxic gases.

1981
One author boldly declared that the rapture would occur before December 31, 1981, based on Christian prophecy, astronomy, and a dash of ecological fatalism. He pegged the date to Jesus' promised return to earth a generation after Israel's rebirth. He also made references to the "Jupiter Effect," a planetary alignment occurring every 179 years that supposedly could lead to earthquakes and nuclear plant meltdowns.

1982
It was all going to end in 1982, when the planets lined up and created magnetic forces that would bring Armageddon to the earth.

1991
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan proclaimed the Gulf War would be "the War of Armageddon ... the final War."

1993
If the year 2000 is the end of the 6,000-year cycle, then the rapture must take place in 1993, because you would need seven years of the tribulation. This was the thinking of a number of prophecy writers.

1998
Numerology: Because 666 times three equals 1998, some people point to this year as being prophetically significant. Someone called me long distance just so he could pass on to me this earth-shattering news.

this time it's different because katy perry and madonna told us so

see, for all our ancestors, they didn't have super bowl half time shows or grammys to tell them the end was nigh like we do now.

they also didn't have every looney with a computer making youtube videos claiming they "broke the code" and the end is upon us

the first one is perfect example of how no matter what time it is, some people think the world is decaying and morally degenerating. Just like they do now! The gay agenda must have been strong in 2800 BC too.

almost 500 years ago, they thought the same things people think today:

"ca. 2800 BC According to Isaac Asimov's Book of Facts (1979), an Assyrian clay tablet dating to approximately 2800 BC was unearthed bearing the words "Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common." This is one of the earliest examples of the perception of moral decay in society being interpreted as a sign of the imminent end."
