PUYALLUP, Wash. - Police found pipe bombs at the Puyallup Municipal Court building early Thursday, nearly a week after two windows at the building were broken with a bat.
Police do not know if the two incidents are related.
Police and firefighters arrived at the court shortly after midnight to check out burglary and smoke alarms that had gone off.
Police say one unexploded pipe bomb was found in an office area, along with remnants of a pipe bomb that exploded, causing minimal damage.
Bomb technicians removed the pipe bomb with a robot and detonated it in the building's parking lot.
The two pipe bombs were thrown through a window, breaking it.
The area around the courthouse was cordoned off for several hours while investigators checked the rest of the building.
The courthouse was initially open Thursday morning, but it was closed and workers were sent home after a Tacoma Fire Department hazardous materials team arrived to examine a strange aroma.
Agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms assisted with the investigation.
