I am confused with your question. There is no "Direction" that labels an area in a galactic plane. Your "North, South, East and West" is based on your planet to identify a direction. In the spatial void, one must use what you call "pi" to measure areas and to try and figure direction. Where as there is not a set point of any direction since the universe is measured from a stand point of the viewer. We, nor any other race we know of, has been able to escape this galaxy to a point to see it in a 2 dimensional view. Your planet is affected by spatial events not galactic and no matter if the magnetic field changes, it will not affect the daily activities of this planet, nor our mining.

I am unaware of any changes to the star's changes in its electromagnetic band.
