"The Great Game" by Mikhail Leontyev (2007-2008)

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)] - there's a playlist for it, since I'm separating each episode into smaller ones

Still translating bit by bit.
7 episodes to go...

"When every one is dead the Great Game is finished. Not before." - Rudyard Kipling
The Great Game - Russian-British confrontation in Central Asia - or at least it was said so. This was a Cold War of the 19th century.
Actually, this is one and the same Cold Game, built on the same historical logic and mythology.
Modern western anti-Russian media rhetoric is a rather primitive plagiarism of British newspapers of century and a half ago.
Do not be afraid of the Cold War, I mean - The Great Game - because only when everyone is dead, the Great Game is finished. And we are still alive.

Re: "The Great Game" by Mikhail Leontyev (2007-2008)
I'll bump this thread for the first time after more than half a year of waiting.

As a side not, I do want to redo it a bit and to translate the rest of the series - as well as the whole concert "from Rus' to Russia" that can be one of the best introductions into Russian history... well, and, actually many other things I want to share.
But, despite many people here repeatedly assuring me that my English is good, I still need a native speaker editor to check my translations. Especially when it's a long narrative or a song.

And, for now - a part of this concert I was speaking about:

This translation is one I found, but I am forced to translate most of the songs myself, which is not a simple task at all...

Re: "The Great Game" by Mikhail Leontyev (2007-2008)
But isn't the crux of the issue when labeling this Anglo-Russian confrontation in one arena always missing the ways that Britain and Russia have worked hand in hand in other arenas?

Britain and Russia clearing the Levant of invaders, or Britain and Russia standing behind Greek independence or Britain and Russia (along with France) holding secret talks to ensure Russia got Constantinople post WW1, only for all parties in that to be betrayed by the Bolsheviks in 1919.

Even today we see the same thing, as while the front pages of British media slam Russia you hop over to their arts sections you'll find them promoting Russia over the US or any other country as the go to place for holidays and Vactions.. you must see St Petersburg...

At the start of the Ukraine issues Britain and Russia entered a year of cultural exchanges not seen before where the elite on both sides get to drink and party...

Russia is still the ONLY country Britain has allowed the elgin marbles to be shown to the public.. no one else, no where else in the world has Britain trusted those marbles to..

and again as we enter deeper into the mire with Syria we have another British/Russian year... hence the BBC adaptation of war and peace.. sending Russian literature into the best seller lists in the UK..

On the flip side of the Russia is sending it's most priceless portraits of famous Russians to London, including the only one they have of Tolstoy and London sending the most priceless portraits of famous Britons to Russia.. an unprecedented exchange of heritage..

There is so much more depth to the Great Game than meets the eye, one that might explain why in every major global conflict for the last 500 years Britain and Russia have always ended up on the same side, and that is true even though they started 3 on opposite sides..

And what about Crimean War? Don't leave off things that you are not comfortable with.
All the examples you've presented are about Russia drawn into wars it should not be involved into. Always suffering highest casualties and having next to nothing gratitude for its deeds.

Cultural exchanges and business is completely beside the point. It's not about British being eternal enemies of Russians etc. etc. It's not even about current Britain - the film is about British Empire and - nowadays - about US as the successor of its ways.

It's about how Thalassocracy and Telurocracy are different for example. The history of conflict and - the most important thing - about the fact that nothing really changes.

Since translating long videos and then editing translations if quite difficult, I've decided to cut the video into smaller pieces and upload them separately. Which means that I'll be updating more frequently, but in small parts.
For now I've edited the first episode a bit, making translation a bit cleaner. 7 episodes to go...
