Small metal piece delays restart of CERN's Large Hadron Collider

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Officials say a minor glitch will delay the re-start of Europe's multi-billion dollar Large Hadron Collider either a couple of days or more than a month.

Looks like the Collider at CERN is still having issues starting up.

Could be as long as a month before it can fire it's load.

I don't think CERN caused that plain to crash.

So it happens to be that a MAGNET delays the launch, and a plane just nosedived for 8 minutes in the same region?

Flight 815's breakup and crash was due to Desmond Hume failing to enter a code into the Swan station computer, causing a large burst of electromagnetic energy. The true cause of the plane's off-course deviation and arrival to the Island's airspace was Jacob, the supernatural entity who protected the Island.

On September 22, 2004, Desmond Hume, who had been helping maintain the DHARMA Initiative's electromagnetic station on the Island for the past three years, failed to enter the Numbers into the computer in time after having accidentally killed Kelvin Inman. This resulted in a system failure and an electromagnetic buildup. Although Desmond eventually managed to reset the Swan's countdown, he wasn't fast enough, as the electromagnetic force had been strong enough to pull down the plane and cause it to break apart in mid-air.

I'd love to go forward in time, not back... how long does it take radiation to become inactive after a nuclear war?

That's how far forward I will go.

Who said you needed a nuclear war? They already are.

The reality is however that the build up of sediment will likely start to encase the material under layers of Earth over time, so it will likely re-absorb into the Earth.

So maybe a few million years forward in time will do?

Give the Earth some time to filter down the death...

Its not 'time travelers'. This is what happens when you try to push the laws of the universe past their breaking point. The universe pushes back. The potential of the machine is probably something that either shouldn't or can't exist in our universe, and because of that, there will always be 'something' that causes a delay or failure in reaching that potential.

so you're saying that the people at CERN will never achieve the LHCs full potential because the "universe" will thwart it?

In a manner of speaking, yes. Again, if the result of success would be something that cannot exist in our universe, then one way or another, success will not be achieved.

Giant waste of time and money.

Throw a few more billions at it, and THIS time something will work. Only wasted forty years so far

I'm sure the LHC is up and running. They are just giving the public the run around.
