This is not to say can't flare up (and how much Hamas controls rocket fire from Gaza is a debatable issue) but that neither side is 100% set on taking the steps that would lead to a major new war

And, I don't really believe that Israel has any desire to go on the ground in Gaza. They HATE that idea. They will only do that if it becomes so absolutely necessary and it is forced. And, not for a few rockets.

Live exercise for all to see, training operation under the guise of potential Gaza invasion, show for a different audience, excuse to place Iron Dome in strategic places, pressure to back off became too much, Gaza has things that could be used that are a real threat but are not using, Israel needs forces there for other reasons which are not known now, etc. etc.....many possibilities. What I do not think this was is an intention to honestly "invade" Gaza.

One thing that has changed since 2014, is the North.

Only time will tell.

I wonder too. Like you said, it was a huge build up. Costly operation to move all of those assets. Plus, the Iron Dome things to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. It's honestly puzzling to me.

It makes no sense whatsoever for Israel to do as they did, (build up) for what we saw today. That could have been done with no tanks on the border. In fact, the tanks made it worse because it provoked the people across the fence and a soldier was killed.

And, I don't really believe that Israel has any desire to go on the ground in Gaza. They HATE that idea. They will only do that if it becomes so absolutely necessary and it is forced. And, not for a few rockets.

WE ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS: Hamas got their hands on long-range rockets that __can___ hit Tel Aviv. They tested at least one of them earlier this week and it flew out into the sea from Gaza - far enough to hit __anywhere__ in Tel Aviv.

Israel knows this is a game changer and they will have to go in. THAT is why we've seen this deployment. Tel Aviv is in the cross-hairs of the Arab nutcases.
