World's Oldest Women Dies at 117 in Japan, Who is the Oldest Now?

There's an Irish woman who lives in the US who just turned 113. Her name evades me.

It's really hard to fathom all that this woman lived through.

Born in 1898, she was a teenager during WWI.

Her husband died in 1931. 84 YEARS AGO. Longer than most of us will even live. Really puts things in perspective.

She was in Japan (I assume) during WWII and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The world she leaves is a vastly different place than the one she entered, yet at the same time, aside from technology, so little has changed.

Okawa lost her appetite about 10 days ago. Until then, she had been eating well, enjoying her daily cup of coffee and her favorite dishes, including ramen, Okada said.

Okawa, the daughter of a kimono maker, said at her recent birthday celebration that her life seemed rather short.

She married her husband, Yukio, in 1919, and they had two daughters and a son. She was survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1931.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Just days after becoming the world's oldest documented person, 116-year-old Gertrude Weaver has died Monday in Arkansas.

Weaver became the oldest person in the world after the death of a 117-year-old Japanese woman last week, according to records kept by the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group. Weaver was born in 1898.

Or maybe the stress of it all was too much?

Look a this list...it's all women except for a couple japanese dudes.
