How The Right Keeps You Stupid: Bobby Jindal’s Budget Slashes College Funding By 82 Percent

Like its conservative counterpart in Kansas, Louisiana’s experiment with conservative economics has led to a financial crisis of baffling proportions. Led by its perpetual bad idea machine, Governor Bobby Jindal, the state has almost no semblance of an economy and now is struggling to keep even basic services funded. Given the dire straits, it’s absolutely no surprise that one of the first things up to the chopping block is higher education.

In today’s job market a college degree is essential, but don’t tell that to Louisiana’s lawmakers – they are cutting funding to their state’s public universities by such a massive extent that many, including the state’s biggest, Louisiana State University, are drawing up plans for how to handle their inevitable bankruptcy.

Jindal’s strategy is offensively obvious: Pick on the gay people, maybe then voters won’t notice the boarded up schools, the 7.2 percent unemployment rate, the flagging economy, or the healthcare mess created by the state’s refusal to cooperate with Obamacare. Sick, unemployed and stupid, Louisianans are truly living in a Republican-created nightmare, but at least their governor is committed to also being a bigot.
