What is the case number?
 Quoting: calin

Never mind - I found it...
Case number
13C14101574

Somebody want to put in the case number and report back?
 Quoting: calin

Done. It comes back the same as the image on this link [link to thefourthestate.co]

No further detail or aliases. The person in case number didn't show for the court case and it was dismissed.
 Quoting: Resister

hmmm... so we cannot be sure it was a settlement for a back injury... Right?
 Quoting: calin

No, the only thing in the case link is names and dates and that it was about a structured settlement.

I do remember reading somewhere else about Freddie Gray receiving some kind of settlement and not needing money yesterday, but I don't know if I can find it again or how reliable that info was.

1 888 CASH NOW

Structured settlement?

1 888 CASH NOW

Disability? Anuaity payments? A lump some coming soon and need the money now?

Call

1 TRIPLE 8 CASH NOW

Mofo couldn't wait a few weeks for his lump sum.

Which, like an idiot, if he'd wait an extra year he'd get ALL OF IT yet instead signed it over to a middle man to get half of it.

and... he never saw a dime.

Except a dime bag.

Found the article I remembered that mentioned his settlement checks.

"Friends said Gray never held a real job and spent his days hanging out in Sandtown. Money he used to buy designer accessories from Prada, they say, came in monthly settlement checks from a lead-paint lawsuit against the owners of the house where he grew up." [link to www.washingtonpost.com]

The lawsuit was about lead paint.

And from that link....

Police officials said Friday that they were in the midst of a “massive, meticulous” probe of the incident, and they appeared to be focusing on one segment of Gray’s 30-minute trip in a police transport van. They said Gray, who was handcuffed and eventually put in leg irons, was never seat-belted, a violation of policy. Gray had made several pleas for medical attention, police said, and officers should have called for an ambulance immediately after his arrest.

I do agree that if someone requests medical help, that should be provided... even in handcuffs. If nothing is found wrong, then it saves a malfeasance claim later.

Let's not assume that the lead paint settlement (pretty easily verified) and the car accident must be mutually exclusive; both could be true.

Here's a good summary of the car accident story that's pretty balanced and un-sensational.

Part of "meticulous investigation" should focus on whether the officers had prior contact with officials of the victim's insurance company before their encounter with the victim.

This case is FAR different than Trayvon and Mike Brown.

This man was NOT committing any crime. This man was capable of running prior to the police chasing him down.

He was then paralyzed (I personally don't give a fuck about any prior injury, if there was one), put into a coma and then died.

His skin color to me is irrelevant.

No, not all cops are bad. I personally have friends who are cops.

But THESE cops NEED to be held accountable for this man's death.

Cops and civilians should have to face the same penalties.

This makes me sick. And it makes me even more sick to see people defending the situation who clearly haven't read up on it. At all.

Plan is going accordingly. It's a damn shame more don't SEE IT!!!

Not for me. Having found a court case about a settlement with his name on it and a reputable report about a settlement about lead paint, I would be inclined not to believe the rumor of prior spinal injury. It would make more sense that the man healthy enough to run would not need to be carried by two people minutes later.

I still honestly have little sympathy for the dangerous life he lead catching up to him. Cops are not justified in handling a perp so forcefully that they break his neck, but accident or not, being arrested 18 times and running from the cops in a neighborhood known for drug trafficking is more than a little dangerous.

No, I hear ya, Simple. It reminds me of the NYC case of Eric Garner, in which the police really dropped the ball.

The challenge I have is the spin and advantage the Administration will use this for.

That is what sickens me. While normal day-to-day people are tormented (one way or the other) over this, the spin doctors are figuring out how to use this to their advantage.

I do feel your frustration, but if there's more to this story, I don't see the harm in uncovering it...or at least digging a little deeper.

I tend to think something happened before Freddie was placed in the police van. He clearly was shouting in pain and he was dragging his legs.

When he asked for his inhaler, he could have been out of breath from running and/or stress.

The commissioner said Freddie had no other injuries.
 Quoting: calin

We don't have video of the take down (at least not that I have seen) but the two cops that appear to have made the arrest were on bicycles. If they chased him down riding and tackled him at speed or swerved in front of him to block his path, that potentially could have seriously inured either the rider or the runner. That's a lot of speculation, but that's all we have at the moment.

At 46, I still remember the broken bones I got twice from riding wrecking my bike as a kid. I broke my jaw hitting a car and broke both bones in my left arm clean through on a bad jump landing. Nothing between you and the pavement when you are on a bike.

We don't have video of the take down (at least not that I have seen) but the two cops that appear to have made the arrest were on bicycles. If they chased him down riding and tackled him at speed or swerved in front of him to block his path, that potentially could have seriously inured either the rider or the runner. That's a lot of speculation, but that's all we have at the moment.

should they have stopped and put a pillow on the ground before
they carefully laid him down on it ?

The question right now and on this thread is whether this OP article holds any value... or is simply the rumor that is going viral.

Recent spinal surgery due to any kind of accident wld not be found in court records until a court date was established which can take a very long time.

Thinking hats, people please.

if this stuff was true, i'd think it'd be leaked right away to prevent this crap from going on.

today's cops need body/dash cams and release info right away, because monkeys cannot wait for investigations before they fling their poo.
