Recent spinal surgery due to any kind of accident wld not be found in court records until a court date was established which can take a very long time.

Thinking hats, people please.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60848787

Right you are. And... why would a medical payoff settlement require a court doc unless it was to change a settlement to a lump sum at some future date?

Not for me. Having found a court case about a settlement with his name on it and a reputable report about a settlement about lead paint, I would be inclined not to believe the rumor of prior spinal injury. It would make more sense that the man healthy enough to run would not need to be carried by two people minutes later.

I still honestly have little sympathy for the dangerous life he lead catching up to him. Cops are not justified in handling a perp so forcefully that they break his neck, but accident or not, being arrested 18 times and running from the cops in a neighborhood known for drug trafficking is more than a little dangerous.
 Quoting: Resister

See bold...

I tend to think something happened before Freddie was placed in the police van. He clearly was shouting in pain and he was dragging his legs.

When he asked for his inhaler, he could have been out of breath from running and/or stress.

The commissioner said Freddie had no other injuries.
 Quoting: calin

We don't have video of the take down (at least not that I have seen) but the two cops that appear to have made the arrest were on bicycles. If they chased him down riding and tackled him at speed or swerved in front of him to block his path, that potentially could have seriously inured either the rider or the runner. That's a lot of speculation, but that's all we have at the moment.

 Quoting: Resister

should they have stopped and put a pillow on the ground before
they carefully laid him down on it ?

wtf
 Quoting: Holy Cow!_33

Go back and read what I posted. I have little sympathy for a career criminal who has chosen to lead a dangerous life and run from the cops. I didn't say the cops did anything wrong. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. I don't know. I was just speculating on possible methods to explain his injury... which was not directly the result eating lead paint chips as a kid.

Okay, and how many people have been arrested before who had prior injuries and didn't end up paralyzed, then in a coma and then dead????????

Keep feeding the race wars.
 Quoting: Simple27

All to get the DOJ involved at state and local levels.

This is beyond F*'d up, and well within Obama's reach given the time he has left in office.
 Quoting: Fret Wiz

This case is FAR different than Trayvon and Mike Brown.

This man was NOT committing any crime. This man was capable of running prior to the police chasing him down.

He was then paralyzed (I personally don't give a fuck about any prior injury, if there was one), put into a coma and then died.

His skin color to me is irrelevant.

No, not all cops are bad. I personally have friend who are cops.

But THESE cops NEED to be held accountable for this man's death.

Cops and civilians should have to face the same penalties.

This makes me sick. And it makes me even more sick to see people defending the situation who clearly haven't read up on it. At all.

Feeding the machine. This is the goal. The hate. The racism.

Great. Fucking great! I hope my little girl survives this scum fuck world once I'm gone!

SHAME on those who post without research.

These riots.....fucking disgusting!!!! A pathetic excuse to cause harm and damage to others who have nothing to do with it. Riots which have nothing to do with Freddie Gray. He is the EXCUSE.

Plan is going accordingly. It's a damn shame more don't SEE IT!!!

gaah

P.S. not directed at you Fret. Just fucking fed up!
 Quoting: Simple27

No, I hear ya, Simple. It reminds me of the NYC case of Eric Garner, in which the police really dropped the ball.

The challenge I have is the spin and advantage the Administration will use this for.

That is what sickens me. While normal day-to-day people are tormented (one way or the other) over this, the spin doctors are figuring out how to use this to their advantage.

I do feel your frustration, but if there's more to this story, I don't see the harm in uncovering it...or at least digging a little deeper.
 Quoting: Fret Wiz

Agreed 100%. The TRUTH in this case really does need to be revealed.

However, I stand by my opinion. The police involved in this case, regardless of anything else, need to be held accountable.

That is the only way this BS will ever end. Wearing a badge should not give you a free ride to murder without being held accountable.

Re: RUMOR: Freddy Gray had very recent spinal/cervical surgery / was receiving large pay-out.
From Facebook/Breitbart:

William Birmingham:
Freddy Gray had a pre-existing spinal and neck injury and had severe damage and scar tissue from an accident that Allstate Insurance was paying him a large structured settlement. Freddy had several unsuccessful spinal fusion surgeries, he most recent spinal/cervical operation was a week and a half before he was arrested. Freddy should have been at home in bed resting and recovering from recent major operation instead of manufacturing and distributing drugs on the streets and resisting arrest.

Freddy has a criminal record pages long for manufacturing and distributing controlled dangerous drugs that were cocaine crack heroine etc. along with many assault charges, gun charges, breaking and entering and the list goes on since he was 18 years old. (Juvenile records are sealed.) Look at some of this on www.mdjudiciarycasesearch. You will also see where he was trying to cash in his monthly structured settlement for his spinal injury payments to one lump sum through Peachtree Funding, He could have easily fallen in the paddy wagon from the slippery bench to the floor or twisted his fused spine to reopen his recently fused damaged spine.

Also, the police that arrested him were also black, not white. Why are people destroying their own homes and revenue when they don't know the whole story? Mostly because it's a good reason and timing to loot and get new shoes and stolen goods? You got it! None of the police officers that arrested Freddy had a history of police
brutality. Freddy was a dangerous career felon with a damaged spine and neck that was supposed to be healing a week and a half after surgery, not running the streets committing felonies and resisting arrest.

[link to www.facebook.com (secure)]
 Quoting: Anton Chigurh

Sounds not quite right.

To run a week and a half after back surgery?? Maybe the timing is off.

Secondly, ray is moaning in severe pain before his was lifted into the vehicle and was unable to use his legs the entire distance that the police dragged him.

IOW, the police should have stopped and requested an ambulance.

It's that simple. They effed up. They were apparently pretty callous about it if the story is true regarding how they didn't secure him to the bench like they should have.

But securing him would have been challenging due to his loss of motor control.
 Quoting: Booger Cancer

One more thing. It is possible for a not completely healed spinal surgery to bust loose which could sever a spinal chord.

Maybe that's what happened. Maybe he tried to do too much and injured himself.

The key thing to this whole story is how did the police respond to his injury which undoubtedly occurred before he was placed in the vehicle?

There was no excuse for them not to have called an ambulance. He was in excruciating pain and didn't have use of legs.
Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I also reversed my chronic kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) when I was 25. In neither case were any medical treatments involved.

This guy has been arrested multiple times for drugs. The cops probably knew him/arrested him before.

Running away may institute probable cause. Perhaps he dropped the drugs before he was caught.

it changes NOTHING.. why? because there exists another culture, distinct from the main culture, that does not understand rational thinking.

A good guy is one who has a rap sheet only 5 pages long. A good guy has less than 4 murder convictions. Doing good in school, or speaking properly, is acting white. Marriage is unknown. Being conservative is having one father to all of your illegitimate children . Generational welfare is the family business. All whites are racist, blacks cannot be. It's better to have a black public official stealing from you than a honest white official. If you look my way, it's disrespectful, and I kill you. If I like your shoes, and want them, I kill you.

A lot of this started in 1964, with the war on poverty. And you can thank liberal whites for plenty of it. It has also helped create a white trash problem.

Yes everyone should be held accountable for their actions... and so far they are being held accountable. They cops involved were immediately suspended pending an investigation. In the Florida case of the cop shooting the guy in the back, he has been charged with murder and will likely spend a long time in prison. In the NY case with the death of Eric Garner, the cops were held before a grand jury where more than evidence, even hearsay, is considered and a jury of their peers found no wrongdoing worthy of criminal charge. In the MO case where the cop was attacked, even the horribly biased Eric Holder's "justice" department found no basis for criminal charges against the cop who was legitimately defending his life.

The cops in MD are being held accountable. That takes just a little bit of time. The criminals they arrest get their day in court, and so should the cops. Lets be patient enough to let the same justice system that takes months to convict any other obvious murderer provide the same legal prosecution and defense for the cops.

The cops vs blacks cases that get the attention are always seriously flawed:
-Trayvon the sweet Skittles eater
-The Gentle Giant of Ferguson
-Freddie Gray snapped in two by thug cops

We never see real cases of police brutality.
Just the bogus events that make a circus of justice.

The CIA black operatives sure know how to stoke the fires of stupidity.
They made 911 happen and got away with it, thanks to their Saudi base of assets, aka Al Qaeda.

Come on now. You can't hold someone in jail without charging them with a crime, not even regular ol' run of the mill non-cop people. Remember the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing? Cops often conduct an investigation while criminals roam free until they have enough evidence to arrest them and charge them with a crime.

Even once charged, not everyone is held in jail to await trial. Most people post bail even when someone dies and if the evidence is not immediate, the specific person is not obvious, and the character of the suspects is good, judges may not set the bail to high.

As for the paid suspension? Well, I'm not crazy about that either, but the nature of their job invites the potential for something going wrong on a regular basis. They are innocent until proven guilty just like you or I. If a cop had to worry about losing his paycheck every time the act of simply doing his job brought up an investigation that may take weeks, there would either be very few cops or lots of people who pretend to be cops who are terrified of interacting with a criminal public to actually do their jobs.

Re: RUMOR: Freddy Gray had very recent spinal/cervical surgery / was receiving large pay-out.
Either that dude had a twin sister born on that same day or he used a fake name in court or was born a woman

GRAY, FREDERICKA

UPDATE: ^this is a female^

Wow, what are the odds that 2 criminals reign from the same city, with nearly the same names (Freddie Gray, Fredericka Gray) and born 1 day apart. Either they are related cousins with super timing or something else.

Fredericka Gray DOB: 08/17/1989

These police are trained to jump on folks' necks and they get more violent about it every day. This rumor is a rumor, but folks paralyzed and killed by cops is a fact.

Just saying....

If I was the last person seen and with someone who was pronounced dead, I would be in prison right now. Awaiting trial for murder.

Not on a paid vaca from the police department.

Then again...I don't own a badge.

 Quoting: Resister

You certainly bring up valid points. All I know is that around here, you'd be held. I suppose you could make bail. The system is so twisted. My state sucks.

But if suspected of murder, my job wouldn't suspend me with pay. Again...no badge here.

Again, have friends who are cops. Far from a cop-hater. But this case needs attention. Legal attention. Not riot attention.

Just sad and pathetic. All of it. IMO.

: (

Edit: They had a crime to be charged with.

How long until the mainstream is allowed to report this?

Don't think they can legally from hippa laws? Or maybe they can if because he is deceased it is different..

False. You must get permission to release anything that does not have to do with payment, treatment or operations.
I do lots of hipaa stuff at my job. Horses out of the barn doesn't convey any permissions.
Riots don't count as "operations" in case you are wondering. Lol

So HIPAA still applies after a person is deceased?

I thought it didn't.

bump This is a total game changer and explains why the cops had an awkward unatural reaction to the alleged fresh injury.

Does anybody notice any emerging patterns?

I sure do!
