I don't agree with that.

What I agree with is that power attracts the corruptible.

Interesting perspective.

“Power attracts the corruptible. Suspect any who seek it.”

― Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune

I was fairly certain it was Herbert I have to thank for sharing it :)

Without further searching, I am pretty sure the character who said it was Reverend Mother Darwi Odrade, Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit, giving counsel to her aides.

The mantra of the Bene Gesserit : "We exist only to serve."

The first hit on Google for a search of "power attracts the corruptible" was one from author David Brin, in the sci-fi novel "The Postman" published in 1985.

"It’s said that “power corrupts,” but actually it’s more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power. When they do act, they think of it as service, which has limits. The tyrant, though, seeks mastery, for which he is insatiable, implacable."

Chapterhouse: Dune was also published in 1985...

1985 is also the year I first began to experience lilliputian hallucinations, out-of-body experiences, and what is described as astral projection with no known trigger to explain them.

One could say I've been experimenting my way back ever since to the closest I've come to feeling at peace and at home while also not alone.

I wish I'd kept a journal in those years...

Not sure if this thread of mine ever came to your attention or not, but I had a passing thought yesterday that, perhaps, if not, it ought.

Well said.

I had never heard of that, but Googled it and reminded me of something I experienced as a child.

It only happened when laying down..but it would suddenly feel like I was only a head and my body was super tiny. Like just a couple inches and attached to my head. I could still feel my body, but it was just really small. Is that the same?

It happened a bunch of times as a kid, but never as an adult. Always struck me strange.

Great thread too. I'll have a read through again when I'm more alert.
