The blaze swept through a slipper and shoe factory in Valenzuela City, Mayor Rexlon Gathcalian told reporters at a news conference Thursday. He said the facility was owned by the Kentex Manufacturing Corp. Valenzuela City is part of the densely populated metropolitan region around the Philippine capital, Manila. |

I think the factory was in Valenzuela City. I have no idea where that is. Can't seem to find a factory name, but it's been reported as owned by Kentex Manufacturing. Nothing comes up on a fast Google search. Just some watch manufacture in Japan. I'd guess it's just a big "sweatshop" and makes flip flops for the Philippine market. IF the plant had followed OSHA standards, flammable chemicals would not have been next to a welding torch and there would have been an alarm and exits so the workers could leave. Those poor folks and the families they were supporting; I bet the owner gets off scot free. Essentially, that burning rubber material was very likely everywhere. |
