Re: The US Navy just turned seawater into fuel!!!
Last month the Navy Research Lab powered a radio-controlled P-51 model using a “gas to liquid” process that takes seawater and turns it into fuel.

According to a jargon-rich NRL press release, the process goes something like this: An innovative and proprietary NRL electrolytic cation exchange module (E-CEM), both dissolved and bound CO2 are removed from seawater at 92 percent efficiency by re-equilibrating carbonate and bicarbonate to CO2 and simultaneously producing H2.

The gases are then converted to liquid hydrocarbons by a metal catalyst in a reactor system.

Using ocean water for fuel wouldn't have any real impact, IMHO.

Maybe the giant trash pile in the ocean can start to be cleaned up.

Re: The US Navy just turned seawater into fuel!!!
Jet fuel is kerosene. Kerosene is carbon atoms surrounded by hydrogen atoms.h6c6 or some such- hence hydrocarbon fuel.
The oceans are full of CO2 and H2O.
When kerosene combusts it produces CO2 and H2O and CO.
The water in steam form eventually returns to the ocean and the co2 also.

The concept you have to remember is that earth is a huge recycling plant.
They seperate the C and the H and recombine them into Useable liquid hydrocarbon fuel. All that is required is an energy source like solar or a nuclear generator found on all US aircraft carriers.

We will never run out of petroleum. Because we can make our own.

We are on the cusp of a huge geo economic political change. The petro dollar system will change. Our "allies" like the Saudis and Israelis will no longer be needed.
The tech changes coming in the next 50 years will be orders of magnitude beyond the stone age to industrial revolution leap.

Certain groups are trying to mold the future world into an orderly transition. Others want chaos and devolution to keep the changes from happening and keeping the power and wealth that they have amassed.
Sadly our news sources are controlled by the owners who have the most money and we are fed lies and lines about what is really going on in order to support them during this transition.

After about a million years or so of ten billion humans using them for fuel everyday, and powering their cities,
they might drop an inch.
Audi is also researching getting carbon dioxide out of the air, mixing it with water to make fuel.

It's quite unnerving that people forget this. I had to educate people on why we can't truly run out of water on the planet because it can't leave the atmosphere......

I doubt we could even make a dent in the world oceans.

Funny as I remember this being disclosed over a year ago.

Part of the process uses high frequency radio waves. A very specific set of frequencies is vital to make this system work.

It is pointless for us consumers to use it. As regular gas is still cheaper. SO no one will be buying seawater fuel anytime soon.

BUT, the Navy has to ship their fuel constantly to their warships and carriers. Which carries a heavy cost in equipment, crew, time etc.

If they can make the fuel on site, it is roughly 10 times cheaper for the Navy. Not because the fuel is expensive, but the transport which makes it expensive.

I'm sure that one of the main outputs of combustion is water, so no, the oceans are fine. They're just going to borrow it for a little while.

There's nothing new about this, it also takes a great amount of energy, you'd need a nuclear reactor to make it work large scale, so it's in no way "green" energy.
